— Stanton ISD has named Jan McCown as lone finalist for the superintendent of schools position after the previous superintendent resigned months earlier.
McCown was named as the lone finalist by a vote of 6-0 in the Apr. 10 Board of Trustees meeting, the district said.
McCown’s predecessor, Dr. Merl Brandon, unexpectedly resigned in January after agreeing to take a job with San Angelo ISD, and the district named McCown, the district's assistant superintendent as interim superintendent days later.
“Stanton ISD is a wonderful school district in Texas – it is a highly sought-after place for families to raise their children, and a district where teachers and staff team with other incredibly talented community leaders to serve all our students,” school board president Jeremy Louder said.
Stanton ISD said it will now follow the 21-day waiting period as required by the state before McCown can officially be named superintendent. She will start her new position in May.
