BIG SPRING - LaRue Shanks, 81 of Big Spring, died March 4, 2014, in a local nursing home. Funeral services were Mar. 7 at the 14th and Main Church of Christ in Big Spring with Rick Cunningham officiating. Interment followed at Trinity Memorial Park. She was born April 26, 1932, in Pyote and married Charlie Shanks Jan. 15, 1951, in Knott. She was an artist, painting with oils, water colors and pastels. She enjoyed her morning walks at the mall, loved board games and card games and was a very good seamstress. She was a member of the 14th and Main Church of Christ, where she taught bible class for many years. Survivors include her husband, Charlie Shanks of Big Spring; three daughters, LaShara Nieland and husband Andy of Abilene, Diana Armstrong and husband Larry of Midland and Carla Gonzalez and husband Eugene of Coppell; one son, Stanley Shanks and wife Sherry of Dallas; one sister, Janelle Thomas of Aurora, Colorado; four brothers, Newell Tate of Tarzan, Truman Tate of LaVeen, Arizona, Roger Tate of Euless and Alan Tate of White Salmon, Washington; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by parents Alvah Horace Tate and Jessie Westfall Tate; and two brothers, Berwyn Tate and Gary Tate. Arrangements under the direction of Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory of Big Spring.
