Every home should have pet-jumping spiders

WEST TEXAS - My late mother was a naturalist, and edited The Phalarope, the newsletter for the Midland Naturalists for 35 years. Volunteers at the Sibley Nature Center recently completed scanning over 325 of her essays, which will be put onto the Sibley website in the coming months. She wrote about our local flora and fauna. What follows is an essay she wrote in 1968, after a supper that I attended with a jumping spider on my shoulder:
