Philip R Morrow

DALLAS - Philip R Morrow, MD, of Dallas, died Oct. 16, 2014, surrounded by his wife, Elizabeth and his loving family. He was born Jan. 28, 1929, the third child and only son of Costa D. and Gladys M. Morrow in Sherman. He graduated from Sherman High School in 1946 where he served as class president, was elected most handsome and was later designated as a distinguished alumnus. He then attended Austin College, graduating in 1950. While at AC, he embraced student life as a founding member and President of The Drakes social fraternity. After graduating from AC Philip began the pursuit of his chosen profession by attending medical school at UT Southwestern in Dallas. Following graduation from UTSW in 1954 he then served proudly in the US Army as Captain in the Army Medical Corp and was stationed at Ft Carson, Colorado. Upon his discharge from the service, he returned to Dallas to begin his residency in general surgery. Upon completion of his residency he began a distinguished 45 year career in surgery and shared a 35 year surgery partnership with his great friend, the late Kenneth O. Adwan, MD. He was an active member and former president of the DallasCounty Surgical Society. He was active in many other professional organizations including being a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and a member of the Texas Surgical Society. While attending UT Southwestern, he met the love of his life, Elizabeth, on a blind date. They were married in Dallas in 1952 and remained deeply in love for the next 62 years. He was an active and loyal member of Highland Park United Methodist Church for over 60 years where he served on many boards and committees, including as Chairman of the Administrative Board. He is predeceased by his mother and father and his sister Louise M Lang, and her husband, Garland H Lang, Jr., MD, his sister-in-law, Helen S. Willbanks and husband Otto L. Willbanks, MD, his brother-in-law Wm. O. Stephens, his son-in-law, Bob Britten and three grandsons Philip, Patrick and Ben Britten. He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth, his sister Mary Alice Stephens, his children Helen (Jeff) Smith of Amarillo, Mary (John) Peisen of Rockwall, Paul (Laura Nell) Morrow and John (Julie) Morrow, all of Dallas. Also surviving him are grandchildren Jeffery Smith, Andy Smith, Matthew Peisen, Katie Peisen, Austin Morrow, Emily Morrow, Mack Morrow, P. Raymond Morrow, II, Ellen Morrow, and Stanton Morrow. He is also survived by great grandchildren Graham Smith, Eloise Smith, Rosalie Smith and Jay Britten Morrow as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews.
