Gut check time for Stanton in squeaker over Kermit

STANTON – Stanton had an early season gut check against some stiff competition in Kermit at the Stanton High School gym on Tuesday. The Buffs trailed 49-48 with 33 seconds left in the contest when Stanton’s Blake Snellgrove zipped a perfect pass to a cutting Colby Gordon for an easy layup that would prove to be the game clincher.

The fans in attendance witnessed an exciting game as the two teams were tied at halftime 26-26. Stanton would take a double digit lead early in the second half only to have the Yellow Jackets come buzzing back to take a one point lead in the final second of the game.

Stanton senior guard Tristan Graves posted a game high 21 points for Stanton in the win, while post Sebastian Escamilla scored 10.
