James Richard Currie

GLASSCOCK COUNTY - James Richard Currie, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather died Jan. 16, 2017, surrounded by his family.

He was born on Feb. 2, 1928, in San Angelo to the late Stephen Calverley Currie and Mary Dimple Cox Currie. He came home to the ranch in Glasscock County where he lived for 88 years.

He attended Texas Tech University and University of Texas. In 1951, he entered the Army and served as a military police instructor at Fort Gordon in Augusta, Georgia. That same year he married the love of his life, Jimmie Ruth Hayes.

He was an avid rancher, hunter, fisherman, and golfer. When he was not at the ranch, he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and studying the Word of God.

He is survived by his wife, Jimmie of the ranch; two daughters, Cynthia Howard and her husband Bill of Midland and Darla Taylor and her husband Craig of Midland; his five grandsons, Stephen, Chris and Richard Howard, and James and Will Taylor; and five greatgrandchildren.

Honorary pallbearers were Clifford Barnes, Barry Beal, Dr. Richard Byrd, Jose Luis Cardenas, Rick Glasscock, Jim Hall, Richard Johnson, Jax Poteet, Dennis Seidenberger and Frank Sitterle.

His memorial was Jan. 19. In lieu of flowers, it is requested a donation be made in his name to Midland Memorial Foundation.

Arrangements were under the direction of Nalley-Picke & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory of Midland.
