ODESSA - Clara Ruby Davis, 93 of Odessa, died Feb. 14, 2017. She was born on Dec. 4, 1923, in Martin County to Clara Adalaid (Shipman) Atchison and Franklin Eugene Atchison, Sr. She was the fourth of eight children. She was raised on a farm in Martin County during the height of the Depression and had to work hard alongside her family in order to survive. At the age of 12, when her father was killed by lightning, her responsibilities to help provide for her family grew even more. Less than two years after graduating from high school, her family’s house burned to the ground, resulting in the loss of everything her family possessed less one cedar chest that was saved. After the fire, she, her mother, and her three youngest brothers moved into town. Shortly after this move, she met her husband of 66 years, Edgar Davis. They married on Jan. 6, 1945, at her home in Stanton. She was a dedicated wife, mother and grandmother. She loved cooking, gardening, sewing, and painting oils and canvasses. In later years, her favorite pastime was spending time with her three grandchildren. She and her husband were members of the Eisenhower Church of Christ for over 40 years. She could remember each birthday and anniversary of every parent, brother, sister, child, in-law, niece, nephew, and grandchild. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edgar Davis; her parents; her sister; and six brothers. Survivors include two children: daughter Sharon Peck and her husband Kyle of Midland; son Don Davis and his wife Jeannie of Abilene; grandchildren Wes Isler, Mindy Johnson, and Missy Poe, and families; numerous nieces and nephews;grandchildren Keegan Peck, Kelsey Peck and Kensly Peck. Services were Feb. 20 at Eisenhower Church of Christ in Odess with burial at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
