PATRICIA - Memorial services for Joe O'Brien, 85 of Lamesa were today at First Baptist Church with Pastor Jim Medley officiating. Private entombment was in Dawson County Cemetery under the direction of Branon Funeral Home. A longtime farmer and rancher in the Patricia and Klondike areas, he was well known throughout the Dawson, Martin and surrounding counties. He died May 29, 2017, in Lamesa. He was born Dec. 1, 1931, in Lamesa to Cecil and Renie (Durham) O'Brien. He married Betty Foster Nov. 22, 1951, at Klondike Baptist Church. They were married 65 years. He was a lifelong resident of the Patricia and Klondike area communities. He was a Sergeant in the United States Army having served in the Korean War. He was a member at Klondike Baptist Church and a 32nd Degree Mason. He is survived by his wife, Betty O'Brien of Lamesa; children Donna Trammel and husband Roger of Buffalo Springs, Janna Hightower and husband Charlie of Patricia, and Foy O'Brien and wife Kelley of Patricia; sister Kay Spears of Midland; grandchildren Brant Stewart of Lamesa, Brien Stewart of Lubbock, Lance Stewart of Austin, Trent Hightower of Austin, Tayla Hightower Craig of Magnolia, Mason O'Brien of Canyon, and Cooper O'Brien of Patricia;great-grandchildren Caden Stewart and Kiersten Stewart both of Lamesa, Cash Stewart and Jack Stewart both of Lubbock, Grae Stewart of Austin, and Rylee Craig of Magnolia. He is preceded in death by his parents; and grandparents. The family suggests memorials to a charity of choice.
