Craddick earns triple A honors as top lawmaker

MIDLAND - Rep. Tom Craddick of Midland, who represents Martin County has been recognized with the “Legislator of the Year” award by AAA Texas for his work in passing the statewide ban on texting while driving.

“I am extremely flattered by this recognition from AAA Texas,” Craddick said. “My sincere appreciation goes to AAA Texas for this award and for their part in helping to support and pass House Bill 62. There is no doubt in my mind that a statewide ban on texting while driving will help to keep our roadways safer, prevent crashes, and save lives.”

Authored by Rep. Tom Craddick and Sen. Judith Zaffirini, House Bill 62 will go into effect on Friday, September 1, 2017. Drivers will face up to a $99 fine for first time offenses if they use a portable wireless communication device to: read, write, or send an electronic message while operating a motor vehicle unless the vehicle is stopped.
