SAN ANGELO - Nona Smith, 87 of San Angelo, formerly of Midland from 1950 to 2015, died Jan. 17, 2018, at her residence. Graveside services were Jan. 19, at Evergreen Cemetery Chapel in Stanton. She was born Apr. 14, 1930, in Big Spring. She was raised in Stanton where at the Stanton Drug Store she met her soulmate and love of her life, Billie (Bill) Guy Smith from Albany. They were married on Oct. 31, 1949 in Albany. Sacred vows they never considered breaking. For the sixty nine years they have been married their children and all who knew them have witnessed a true love story. Bill treated her as his porcelain princess. She was loved, honored and treasured by all her family. She was a homemaker while her four daughters were young. A teacher of respect, honesty, discipline and cooking (even mud pies). Through love and laughter she taught us to have fun which included hula-hooping! She was an excellent seamstress, quilter, and all other forms of needlework. Later in life she worked at the Needle Nook and the Quilting Patch, both in Midland, where she shared her talents with others and enjoyed the comradery of her co-workers and customers. The couple loved to fish. She never laced a worm on a hook or removed a fish from a line. If her bait was gone she simply stated, “Sugar, (Bill) I need another worm”. No matter if Bill was reeling in a catch of a lifetime he dropped what he was doing and laced her hook or removed the fish with a smile on his face. Today we are very thankful for the vast amount of heartwarming memories of their love for each other and their family. They were members of the Kelview Heights Baptist Church where they attended faithfully until illness would no longer allow. Survivors include her husband, Billie (Bill) Smith of San Angelo; four daughters, Sandy Jenkins and husband, Rocky of Fredericksburg, Vickie Lipps and husband, Ray of San Angelo, Nona Gail McCall, Jeannie Bailey and husband, Bob all of Midland; nine grandchildren, Shane Jenkins and Michelle, Brent Jenkins and wife, Esther, Billy Welch and wife, Kitty, Roger Welch, Jr. and wife, Rachal, Brandon Lipps and wife, Hannah, Shelley Jackson and husband Tye, Tricia Reed and husband Alan, Amber Harris and husband, Cody, Amanda Fioretti and husband, Tommy, Lucas Bailey and wife, Katie and Rainy Hilliard and husband, Derek; Zack Woody, Brittany Woody and 29 great-grandchildren.
