Civic, school leader Sammy Yates buried June 20

MARTIN COUNTY - Longtime Martin County civic and agriculture leader Sammy Yates died June 16, 2018, following a brief illness. He was 82.

A Martin County 4-H leader and a trustee for the Grady Independent School District for many years, he was active in most any activities that involved the youth of Martin County and West Texas.

Funeral Services were June 20 at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Chapel in Midland with interment at Resthaven Memorial Park.

Born Jan. 2, 1936, in Big Spring, he was given the name Preston Gail. However, he was known as “Sammy” to his friends and was a beloved “Pop” to countless young souls.
