State sales permits arrive for both Lawrence Brothers and Stripes

STANTON - It took a few weeks longer than anticipated but the permits have arrived and Stanton is officially wet as of this week.

Stripes Convenience Store got its state permit first and began setting up coolers Tuesday to begin receiving beer and wine - and Lawrence Brothers was not far behind.

Ironically, it was Lawrence Brothers IGA that did most of the hard work to make the successful wet/dry election go the way it did in 2018 - when the sale of beer and wine was overwhelmingly approved for off-premises consumption and inside the City of Stanton city limits only.

Because of its size as a group of several hundred stores, it’s likely the corporation that owns Stripes had far more experience with the permit process and somehow got a couple days ahead of Lawrence Brothers in the permitting process.

Still, both stores are starting sales during the same week - a huge change for Martin County which has been one of the last and largest counties in the state that was still dry.
