Public hearings on annexations scheduled here

STANTON - A public hearing is planned later this month for input on proposals to add numerous properties into the Stanton city limits.

A number of the properties have been for years in or near the city limits and many of them have been receiving utilities - at a higher rate - than those who are part of the city.

City officials explained that most of the property owners have never asked to be inside the city limits, but that both city administration and council members decided it was time to include them into the city.

A number of the properties are along Hwy. 137.

At least two other properties present different challenges in that both are farther outside city limits and both have owners requesting annexation.

One is the Martin County Hospital, which is proposing to build a nursing home, additional laboratories as well as facilities to house visiting specialists and other employees.
