Massive grant will fund complete interior restoration of convent

STANTON - In 1987 the Martin County Convent Board was formed with a view toward full restoration and stabilization of the Convent/ Historical Carmelite Monastery here in Stanton. Board members have come and gone over the years but each of them, as well as every person or entity that gave a donation or grant award, contributed to the exciting news shared with the community today.

The dream of a complete restoration of the interior of this community icon is about to happen. Martin County Convent, Inc. applied for a grant in the spring of this year by invitation from FMH Foundation. The FMH Foundation was established in 2011 by Florence Marie Hall to continue her legacy of giving back to her beloved West Texas.

The Foundation was created to “foster collaboration, innovation, creativity, excellence, synergy, and development” with the focus on health, performing and visual arts, and community and cultural endeavors. The award of this grant came in August 2019 to include not only the interior work but also extensive work on the Carpenter street entrance.
