STANTON - The Stanton City Council appointed Joe Bob Morales as the new Chief of Police of the Stanton Policed Department at 7 a.m. Monday morning.

The position was announced to be vacated when Fred Schroyer gave his verbal resignation during executive session at the regular monthly council meeting last Tuesday.

City council members accepted the resignation on Monday and interviewed Morales as well as Stanton Police Department Sergeant Lance Smith before unanimously appointing Morales the new chief.

“Joe Bob and Lance were great candidates and both qualified for the job, we decided the candidate with more experience was the better choice,” said City of Stanton councilman Danny Fryar.
