STANTON - Ruben Edward Sanchez died June 24, 2020, after a brief battle with pancreatic cancer. He was 61 years of age and was surrounded by family at the time of his death.

A loving husband, father and grandfather, Ruben was one of the kindest people you could ever meet. He loved his family fiercely, never met a stranger and gave generously. He had a smile that could light up the room, and he loved spending time with his family.

He was born Aug. 2, 1958, in Big Spring, to Nick and Aurora Sanchez. He graduated from Stanton High School and married his high school sweetheart, Cynthia Esparza, on Oct. 1, 1976.

Together, they have three children: Mona Hernandez, and husband David; Nick Sanchez, and wife Michelle; Krista Erives, and husband Freddy; and 10 grandchildren: Tori and fiance Matthew Benson, Jalen and Alyssa Hernandez; Tristyn and Xander Sanchez, Brylee Beitel; and Brody, Josiah and Elliana Erives.

He is also survived by his father, Nick Sanchez; his sister, Regina Thomas and husband Eddie; his brother-in-laws, Orlando Esparza and Tony Hignojos; and his mother-in-law, Ramona Esparza.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Aurora Sanchez; brother, Stephen Sanchez and father in-law Pete Esparza.

Recently retired, Ruben previously worked as a Plant Supervisor at WesTex Telecommunications. He loved his coworkers and customers dearly and considered them his second family.

The family will have a private service and in lieu of flowers, they ask for memorial donations to be sent to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network.

Arrangements are under the direction of Stanton Memorial Funeral Home and Chapel.
