Juarez named new food pantry director

The Martin County Community Fund’s Director Jimmy Stallings announced some changes in the operation of the Stanton Food Pantry. Kimberly Juarez will be the new director for the Food Pantry. Longtime residents Joe and Mary Ortiz are leaving Stanton and moving to the Dallas area. Mary and Joe Ortiz have been instrumental in the operation of the food bank outlet in Stanton for many years.

For the second year in a row

For the second year in a row, XTO Energy has given the Martin County Sheriff’s Department an $8000 check to as discretionary funds for the department. Sheriff Brad Ingram thanked former Martin County Sheriff Randy Cozart who now works with XTO, and everyone at XTO for the donation.

Salvation Army building new shelter

WEST TEXAS - The Salvation Army in Midland is expecting to break ground early next year for a new homeless shelter. More than $8.3 million has been raised for the construction of the new facility and has been funded with the help of area foundations. These foundations include: Abell-Hanger, Wayne and Jo Anne Moore, Warren, Henry, J.E. and L.E. Mabee, Chaparral, and Scharbaurer.

Fried pickles, pillowcases and pizza - all part of 4-H fun days

Seventeen Martin County 4- H members participated in the 4-H food and nutrition project fun day July 19 at the First Baptist Church activity center. To give the kids hands-on experience in the kitchen, the 4-Hers made pizza, fried pickles and caramel corn. “Okay, I know what you’re thinking,” laughed Amy Baugh, Martin County Family and Consumer Sciences Texas A&M AgriLife Extension agent, “pizza, fried pickles, and caramel corn aren’t the cornerstones of a healthy diet; however, the kids had fun while learning life skills.

A Family Reunion

It was a wonderful and a very special time because we had all of our family together. We ate and ate more, sat around and visited and visited some more. We reminisced about old times and laughed till we couldn‘t. We did a lot of different things together like going for walks or fixing little things around the house.

Martin County, area students receive dozens of scholarships

MIDLAND - The Permian Basin Area Foundation announce $595,501 in scholarship awards at its 20th Annual Scholarship Dinner July 14 at the Midland County Horseshoe. The list includes a large number of students from the Martin, Dawson and Glasscock counties area.
