Annual Thanksgiving service Nov. 22

MARTIN COUNTY - Stanton’s annual Thanksgiving service will be at the First United Methodist Church this year on Sunday evening, Nov. 22, starting at 6 pm. Hosting the event will be the Methodist Church’s new pastor, Rev. Charlie Stevens. This service, offered each year, is the major fundraising event for the Martin County Community Fund, as all received at the offering will be to help fund that community fund.

Pullet show here at center Saturday

MARTIN COUNTY - The 2015 version of the annual Martin County Pullet Show will take place Nov. 7 at the Martin County Community Center barn. Weigh-In: 8-9 a.m, followed by the show at 9:30 a.m. The auction of birds will start at 1 pm, and the public is invited.

Championship Club meets on Nov. 9

MARTIN COUNTY - A Martin County Championship Club meeting will be at 6:30 pm, Nov. 9 at the Martin County 4-H Building. For any questions or to get on the agenda, contact the Extension office at 756-3316. Anyone in the community interested in working with FFA and 4-H youth and their animal exhibits is invited to attend.

Veterans are invited to museum Nov. 10

STANTON - The Martin County Historical Museum will be hosting a Veteran’s Day Reception and Program for all Martin County veterans. It will be Nov. 10 beginning at 5 pm.with the program at 6 pm in the Martin County Community Center.

LUBBOCK - The Stanton High School, Best Band “Herd” competed in the Area A UIL marching contest at Lowrey Field in Lubbock on Oct. 24. The band had a wonderful performance but did not place high enough to go to finals. “It has been an amazing marching season,” said band Director Stazie Church. “The kids worked very hard and improved at every rehearsal. It’s a great start to the the ultimate band award - the Sweepstakes!”

Lenorah Volunteer

Lenorah Volunteer Fire Department chief Bryan Creech accepted a check from an XTO representative for $5,000 recently. The money will go to new equipment and the improvement of old equipment.

Carr receives outstanding achievement award

AUSTIN - David Carr, superintendent of Stanton ISD, recently was honored at the Texas Association of School Administrators/Texas Association of School Boards annual convention in Austin. Carr, recognized as the regional winner representing Region 18, is pictured receiving his award with the state selection vice-chair Pam Remmers. She is a local trustee in Nordheim ISD and has served on the TASB Board of Directors.

Raytheon awards scholarships to Grady Junior High student and teacher

LENORAH - On Sep. 23, 2015, Raytheon Company in Waltham, MA awarded Grady Junior High student Cooper Sims, son of Jason and Jenny Sims, a $1,000 scholarship to be used for a math camp or the first year of college. Grady ISD math teacher Mary Ann Cox received a $1,000 matching grant from the company in support of math education initiatives. The Raytheon Company requests that funds are to be used to motivate students to study math.
