STANTON - The Martin County Senior Citizens Center will offer lunch on New Year’s Day as an annual event. One of the sides offered will be black-eyed peas, considered by many West Texas as a necessity as by eating on New Year’s Day will assure the eater good luck for the entire remaining year.

Big Game Awards Celebrates 25 Years of Texas Hunting Heritage

SAN ANTONIO – Hunters can show their Texas pride by entering their big game harvest in this year’s Texas Big Game Awards program, which is accepting entries now through March 1, 2016. Celebrating its 25th year, the Texas Big Game Awards is a partnership of Texas Parks and Wildlife Department and the Texas Wildlife Association recognizing the contributions landowners, land managers and responsible hunters make to managing and conserving wildlife and wildlife habitat on Texas’ private lands.

Steve Fryar inducted into Tarleton rodeo Hall of Fame on Nov. 14

STEPHENVILLE - Steve Fryar of Lomax and Big Spring was inducted into the Tarleton State University Rodeo Hall of Fame on Nov. 14 at a banquet in Stephenville. Other inductees were Jennifer Smith-Driver, David Key and Turtle Powell. A 1971 Stanton High School graduate, Fryar graduated from Tarleton State University in 1977 with a bachelor’s in agriculture.

Over 110 craftsmen from three states offer decorative items for sale such as children’s clothing, bows, kitchen whisks, handpainted purses, dog carriers, jewelry, pet accessories, paintings, Christmas wreaths and arrangements, decorated shirts, knives, wallets, crosses, pottery, ornaments, sheets, memory rings, sports equipment, home décor items, soap, swag garlands , hand painted canvas, wood crafts, embroidery, Christmas spiders, totilla warmers, Watkins products, books dolls, wood furniture and many other items.

Annual Thanksgiving service Nov. 22

MARTIN COUNTY - Stanton’s annual Thanksgiving service will be at the First United Methodist Church this year on Sunday evening, Nov. 22, starting at 6 pm. Hosting the event will be the Methodist Church’s new pastor, Rev. Charlie Stevens. This service, offered each year, is the major fundraising event for the Martin County Community Fund, as all received at the offering will be to help fund that community fund.

Pullet show here at center Saturday

MARTIN COUNTY - The 2015 version of the annual Martin County Pullet Show will take place Nov. 7 at the Martin County Community Center barn. Weigh-In: 8-9 a.m, followed by the show at 9:30 a.m. The auction of birds will start at 1 pm, and the public is invited.
