Local Girl Scout seeking Gold

STANTON - A lifelong endeavor for one local Girl Scout has reached its peak as her project could earn her the highest accolade any Girl Scout can receive, the Gold Award. Shelby McDaniel started Girl Scouts when she was five years old. Now 11 years later she has succeeded in accomplishing what many girls only dream about, the Gold Award with project titled, “A Picture is Worth More than Words.”

Kennady student leader at Austin College

SHERMAN - Jack Kennady, a graduate of Grady High School and son of John Kennady and Patricia Jackson, is participating in a special interest course titled Environmental Impacts of Consumerism at Austin College. He is one of a few select upper-class students chosen to assist students in their challenging time of transition from high school to college life.

Barnhills celebrate 50th anniversary

STANTON - Jimmy and Mary Barnhill were honored June 26 with a reception celebrating 50 years of marriage on June 5.
They were high school sweethearts and married in the First Baptist Church in Stanton by Brother Uhlman. The 50th reception was at the First Baptist Church Reception Hall and hosted by the couple’s children who live in Stanton: Chris and Shawna Clark Barnhill.

Deadline for fall-seeded crop insurance is Sep. 1

Martin County USDA Farm Service Agency reminds producers to review available crop risk protection options, including federal crop insurance and Noninsured Crop Disaster Assistance Program coverage, before the fallseeded crop deadline of Sep. 1. Federal crop insurance covers crop losses from natural adversities such as drought, hail and excessive moisture. NAP covers losses from natural disasters on crops for which no permanent federal crop insurance program is available, including forage and grazing crops, fruits, vegetables, mushrooms, floriculture, ornamental nursery, aquaculture, turf grass, ginseng, honey, syrup, bioenergy, and industrial crops.

COLLEGE STATION -Joshua Powell received his degree from Texas A & M University on May 16, 2015. He graduated with a degree in finance and is now employed at a bank in College Station.

Stanton Mini Cheer Camp

Stanton Mini Cheer Camp had a record number of attendees, 70. Girls going into Kindergarten through 6th grade learned cheering fundamentals, cheers, dances and hot to do stunting.

Buff band schedule announced for week

STANTON - Uniform fitting day will be Aug. 5 for Stanton High School band members. Seniors go noon to 1, juniors 1 to 2, sophomores 2 to 4 pm and freshmen 4 to 6. The Junior/ Senior supper is at 6:30 pm On Aug. 6 - freshmen marching clinic will be frofm 2 to 6 pm and on Aug. 7 there will be a freshman and sophomore marching clinic from 2 to 4:30 pm.

Local group organizing 2016 Holy Land Tour

STANTON - Have you ever had the desire and prompting to visit the Holy Land of Israel, or perhaps have already made that journey and are now eager to return and refresh that blessing and expand upon that experience?
