Feds open up more chances for CRP, announce signup

Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack announced this week that an additional 800,000 acres of highly environmentally sensitive land may be enrolled in Conservation Reserve Program (CRP) under certain wetland and wildlife initiatives that provide multiple benefits on the same land.

Haverstock signs with Howard Payne

MIDLAND - At a press conference last week in Midland, senior Eric Haverstock signed a letter of intent to attend Howard Payne University in Brownwood and play football for the Yellowjackets. The 6’3", 200 pound wide receiver is the seventh member of the 2014-15 Midland High School Bulldogs to sign with a college football program.

Reavis, Harrision plan October wedding

MIDLAND - Melinda Reavis-Lee and Shari and Bobby Harrison would like to announcement the engagement of their children Kelli Renee Reavis and Brandon Wayne Harrison. Kelli Renee is the daughter of Melinda Reavis-Lee of Midland and the late Randall “Randy” Reavis formally of Stanton. She is the granddaughter of Glenda and Rubin Reavis and Joann and Weldon McCollum all of Midland.

County conservation partners host local work group meeting

STANTON - The USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service in Martin and NE Glasscock County and the Mustang Soil and Water Conservation District cordially invite the public to attend their FY16 Local Working Group meeting June 15 from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. The purpose of this annual LWG meeting is to set local conservation priorities and bring conservation stakeholders together to discuss conservation topics and issues relevant to helping Martin County farmers and ranchers better conserve on-farm natural resources.

Volunteers needed for Memorial flags

Volunteers are needed to place flags at Evergreen and St. Joseph cemeteries in Stanton for the Memorial Day weekend. Starting at 9 am on Saturday, May 23, volunteers are asked to meet at Evergreen Cemetery.

Hooptown forms due today for June camp

Forms are due this Friday for area kids who want to attend the annual Hooptown Basketball Camp. The camp will be June 1 - June 4 at the Stanton High School Gymnasium.

Hull, Lozano exchange vows in April 18 ceremony

STANTON - Belynda Jenea Hull of Stanton and Aaron Lozano of Holcomb, Kansas, were united in marriage on Saturday April 18, 2015, at two o’clock in the afternoon at Hosanna Christian Fellowship in Stanton. Pastor Jannie Linney officiated. The reception was at the First Baptist Church Fellowship Hall in Stanton after the ceremony. The bride was given in marriage by her family and escorted by her two brothers, Tony Hull and Tim Hull both of Stanton

Grady UIL sent 16 to regional meet

GRADY - The Grady UIL Academic Team had 16 students compete in the regional academic meet on April 25 at Angelo State University in San Angelo Dominic Gibson placed fifth in Feature Writing, and Draven Schoberg advanced as far as quarterfinals in LD Debate.

For the second year in a row, Nathan Garlington, a Stanton senior, is headed to the state UIL academic meet in poetry interpretation, after winning the Region II meet.
