Rodriguez continues advancing in journalism

WINK - After a strong finish at the O’Donnell UIL Practice Meet reported earlier, Millie Rodriguez, a senior at Grady High School, continues to excel in UIL journalism. At last weekend’s invitational meet at Wink, she finished second in news writing and fourth in feature writing, finishing behind competitors from much bigger schools such as Permian High School in Odessa.

Midkiff turns out the lights; other gins no end in sight

WEST TEXAS - Father time and baby new year will watch cotton modules be curned into bales as ginning continues into 2015 for area gins. Midkiff is currently the only gin that finished up the season while others might gin until another American holiday, Ground Hog’s Day. After some of the driest years on record, cotton farmers in Martin County and West Texas were finally getting a chance to haul some cotton to the gin but recent freezing rain will slow the harvest to a crawl if not a standstill for a couple days.
