Punt, pass and kick results

STANTON - Stanton students competed in Punt, Pass and Kick last Thursday at Buffalo Stadium. All winners received a Sonic gift card. In the 5-6 yr old division, Nathan Armendarez placed first in all three contests. Kolten Bruner was second.

Brooke Hernandez was crowned the Stanton High School Homecoming Queen last Friday night. It’s not quit being carried off the field but the court of Hannah Franklin, Shelby Holland and Madison Graves did hoist the winner up.

Lupita Jimenez is a 17 year old senior at Grady High School. She is the daughter of Jose and Estela Jimenez.
Viviana Perez is a 17 year old senior at Grady High School. She is the daughter of Billy Joe and Carolina Perez.
Ariel Arnold is a 17 year old senior at Grady High School. She is the daughter of Vance and Shai McMorries and the late Jayde Arnold.
Brittney Garza is a 15 year old sophomore at Grady high School. She is the daughter of Fred and Michelle Garza.

Stanton High School Homecoming 2014

Miss Hannah Linn Franklin: Hannah is the daughter of Reggie and Kristi Franklin and was born on February 10, 1997. After high school graduation Hannah plans on going to college where she will major in pre-med then on to medical school so that she can become a Physicians Assistant and someday work at Cooks Children’s Hospital.
 
Miss Madison Graves: Madison is the daughter of Shawn and Jolynn Rivas and was born on October 4, 1996. After high school graduation Madison plans on attending Texas Tech, where she plans on majoring in nursing. She plans on getting her Nurse Anesthetist License.

Henley to compete in Miss Texas pagent

HOUSTON - Jennifer Henley, of Stanton, will represent the South Plains in the 2015 Miss Texas USA Pageant on Aug 29 - 31 at the Hilton Post Oak Hotel in Houston. This pageant is the Official Preliminary to the Miss USA pageant and is independently conducted and produced by The Chrystal Group, Inc.

WEST TEXAS - My late mother was a naturalist, and edited The Phalarope, the newsletter for the Midland Naturalists for 35 years. Volunteers at the Sibley Nature Center recently completed scanning over 325 of her essays, which will be put onto the Sibley website in the coming months. She wrote about our local flora and fauna. What follows is an essay she wrote in 1968, after a supper that I attended with a jumping spider on my shoulder:
