While family units establish their own territories, they often overlap with other fox family units. Males often change territories while female territories are often established and unchanged - centered around a series of burrows they use as shelter.

Henley to compete in Miss Texas pagent

HOUSTON - Jennifer Henley, of Stanton, will represent the South Plains in the 2015 Miss Texas USA Pageant on Aug 29 - 31 at the Hilton Post Oak Hotel in Houston. This pageant is the Official Preliminary to the Miss USA pageant and is independently conducted and produced by The Chrystal Group, Inc.

WEST TEXAS - My late mother was a naturalist, and edited The Phalarope, the newsletter for the Midland Naturalists for 35 years. Volunteers at the Sibley Nature Center recently completed scanning over 325 of her essays, which will be put onto the Sibley website in the coming months. She wrote about our local flora and fauna. What follows is an essay she wrote in 1968, after a supper that I attended with a jumping spider on my shoulder:

Martin County residents have a new option for mental health care in Big Spring

BIG SPRING - West Texas Centers opened its newly renovated Howard County Mental Health Center July 30 at Malone and Hogan Clinic. ‘We are very excited to work with our community partners the City of Big Spring, and Scenic Mountain Medical Center,” West Texas Centers CEO Shelley Smith said. “This will bring an innovative treatment center to Big Spring for people living with mental illness.”

The walls are going up at the third new hotel in Stanton, this one east of the Comfort Inn on the south side of the interstate. Rumors are a fourth could be coming soon.

Arguello family to be honored at Old Settlers Reunion

Juan and Andrea Arguello were born in Doctor Arroyo, Nuevo Leon, Mexico. Juan immigrated to the United States at 18 years old. He returned to Mexico and married Andrea Castilleja. Juan’s family was prominent, his father was very successful. He owned land and was a farmer and rancher all his life. Juan and Andrea lived in Mexico for a few years after their wedding. They returned to the United States in 1912 when the Mexican Revolution broke out in Mexico.
