Eight-year-old raising extra bucks for the Make A Wish Foundation

STANTON - Eight-year-old Evan Montez is trying to raise money for the Make A Wish Foundation by writing names on stars and taking donations in return.

Eight years back, Montez and his family were blessed by the Make A Wish Foundation with a trip to Disney World in Florida for his brother Angel.

The trip would not have been possible without the foundation’s efforts.

Local music artist looks to climb the hip hot charts

ODESSA - Johnny Salgado, formerly of Stanton, is looking to hit the big time with his music.

Salgado, whose industry name is Mr. Sicccness, started recording his hopeful hits from his house in Stanton before moving to Odessa eight months ago.

He currently sells his songs with digital distributors like itunes and spotify and has been selling his music internationally to Japan, Australia, England, Canada, Mexico as well as here in the United States of America.

Wells, Hale take top awards at county fair

STANTON - The Old Fashion County Fair, hosted by the Martin County AgriLife Extension Family and Consumer Sciences Committee, was considered by many a huge success.

The fair drew over 60 entries with 34 in the youth division and 33 adult entries.

The family originated in the Palatine region of the Rhine River near present day Heidelberg, Germany. The inhabitants were subjected to being pressed into service in the various wars between warring princes. They were also victims of the wars waged by the French and Spanish. The religion of the ruling prince was the required religion of the masses. At times the religion was Catholic, at other times, Protestant.

Former Stanton star heading to Stillwater

STANTON - Stanton grad Latriceia Smith signs her letter of intent to attend Oklahoma State, June 21 at Stanton High School.

Stanton grad Latriceia Smith attended South Plains College with a purpose.

Smith went to SPC with the intentions of earning a track and field scholarship to a Division I program.

That dream was realized Wednesday when Smith signed with Oklahoma State during a ceremony at Stanton High School.

Old Fashioned County Fair added to Old Settlers activities

MARTIN COUNTY - Dig out your crafts, make a flower arrangement, take a photo, bake something, make something and frame some art, the Old Fashioned County Fair is coming to Martin County with the Old Settlers Reunion, July 8.

Entries will be accepted on Friday, July 7, 9 a.m. – 11 a.m. Items and awards will be displayed at the Martin County Community Center Barn on Saturday, July 8.

Martin County committee members sought by FSA

MARTIN COUNTY - The U.S. Department of Agriculture announced today that the nomination period for local Farm Service Agency county committees begins June 15.

“County committees allow farmers and ranchers to make important decisions about how federal farm programs are administered locally to best serve their needs,” said Acting FSA Administrator Chris Beyerhelm
