Fultz, Russell exchange vows at Fulford Barn

BROWNFIELD - Miss Sarah Beth Fultz and Mr. Carsten Wayne Russell were united in marriage on June 4, 2016, at half past six o’clock in the evening at Fulford Barn in Brownfield. The ceremony was officiated by Mr. Jeremy Sigle. The bride’s parents hosted a reception following the ceremony. On the eve of the wedding, the groom’s parents hosted a rehearsal dinner at Fulford Barn.

Alvizo promoted to Master Sergeant

Jose de Jesus Alvizo Jr., formerly of Stanton, was promoted to Master Sergeant in the United States Marine Corps. He has been in the Marines  for 18 years since enlisting shortly after his high school graduation. He served three tours in Iraq and three tours in Afghanistan.

Permian Basin Area Foundation awards $1.18 million in grants

Permian Basin Area Foundation announced $1,472,395 in grants to nonprofit organizations serving the region during a news conference held today at Museum of the Southwest. Of this amount, $1,182,495 was awarded during the semi-annual competitive grant cycle.

Flower Grove Reunion July 2

Once again it is time to have the Flower Grove Reunion. The date has been set for July 2. Due to construction at Lamesa High School, the Reunion has been moved to the First United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall, 401 North 3rd Street in Lamesa. The Fellowship Hall is at 3rd St. and Austin Avenue.

Tires and wheels, even lawnmowers on wish list as area thieves back in action

Lawmen knew it was coming. A full moon this past week and all the heat - it was bound to happen. And this week it did - after weeks of relative quiet on the crime front, all heck broke loose across the county. The usual number of wrecks were accompanied by a handful of oilfield thefts. Then mix in somebody going around stealing lawnmowers in Stanton. Yep, lawnmowers. Stanton Police Department got several calls for thefts of lawn and garden equipment.

Stanton elementary

The new entrance to the Stanton elementary and junior high schools is all finished up and ready for the first day. Parents will no longer use the north double doors.

This Zika virus from mosquitoes - should texans be worred?

The nation is on high alert for the Zika virus – and rightfully so, said Richard Duhrkopf, Ph.D., associate professor of biology in Baylor’s College of Arts & Sciences and nationally recognized expert on mosquitoes. In the following Q&A, Duhrkopf provides an update on national and statewide (Texas) efforts and gives tips to avoid mosquitoes known to carry Zika (Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus), which, he said, are different from those that carry other viruses such as West Nile.

Reavis, Harrison married at Kessler Hall in Midland

Kelli Renee Reavis and Brandon Wayne Harrison were united in marriage on October 3, 2015 in Midland at Kessler Hall. The ceremony was performed by the groom’s uncle Luis Allen of Sonora. The bride is the daughter of Melinda Lee of Midland and the late Randy Reavis. She is the granddaughter of Weldon and Joan McCollum and Rubin and Glenda Reavis, all of Midland. The groom is the son of Bobby and Shari Harrison of Greenwood. He is the grandson of Doris Foster of Lamesa, the late Ray Foster, and the late Bo and Patsy Harrison.
