Farm bill struggles are highlighted in Conaway tour

Editor’s Note: Cong. Mike Conaway, who represents Martin County, has his hands full trying to get a farm bill passed this year. The Texas Tribune published this story today about the farm bill, which is so critical to the economy of Martin County and Texas.

SAN ANGELO - In a dusty warehouse that looks like a set from the movie “Footloose,” Brian May pulled wool out of a bail and held it up for an audience that included several members of Congress.

“She would use this in her haute couture line,” explained May, president of Angelo State University, referencing fashion designer Donna Karan as he stretched the wool apart. This high-end wool – also used frequently by the likes of Hugo Boss and Escada – was cleaned at this processing plant on the outskirts of San Angelo.

Legislation making texting while driving a misdemeanor passed the Texas House and Senate during the regular session. It was the fourth session in a row Craddick introduced the bill and pushed for its passage.

The questions were simple and went to the heart of the issue for Stanton residents.

Emergency Service

It was just one of 16 calls made this week by emergency service and volunteer firefighters as wreck after wreck was reported. Amazingly, the injuries did not result in deaths, although a number of folks ended up in the hospital, like at this crushing wreck near the compress Tuesday just before lunch when a dually pickup and a big rig got together.
