New DPS facility to replace Odessa, Midland offices

WEST TEXAS - No longer will there be Department of Public Safety headquarters in both Midland and Odessa. It was announced this week that the DPS will build a new megacenter for all area DPS somewhere near the Midland International Airport, possibly along Hwy. 191.

Oil tops $50 - is it here to stay?

WEST TEXAS - Oil prices topped $50 for the first time in 10 months this week as crude stockpiles dropped for the third straight week, helping trim the glut that sent prices to just over $26 in February. Whether prices continue a gradual climb or just how long they stay at the $50 mark is anyone’s guess, but for now West Texans have to be happy about the rise.

New Miss Lubbock has Martin County ties

LUBBOCK - The newly-crowned Miss Lubbock 2016 has ties to Martin County. Twenty-year-old South Plains College sophomore Jaycee Caldwell was crowned Miss Lubbock Saturday and will represent the South Plains later this summer at the Miss Texas pageant.

Do Well, Be Well With Diabetes

MARTIN COUNTY - To help people learn more about managing diabetes while having fun, Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service in Martin County is offering a diabetes education program called “Do Well, Be Well with Diabetes.” The lessons cover topics such as basic nutrition, meal planning, carbohydrate counting, medicines, using glucose meters, and preventing long term complications.

A bucket truck

A bucket truck pulled out of the auto supply store on Hwy. 137 in Stanton Wednesday, caught a power line and ripped down a telephone pole and shut down electricity for businesses in the neighborhood.

An unidentified woman, passing on the right hand side of a truck in the school zone at Grady during the end-of-the-year elementary track meet at about 11 am, Friday crashed and rolled her pickup going in excess of 70 mph. Flown by air ambulance, she’s got big problems.

Serving Stanton, Lenorah, Tarzan and all of Martin County

Volunteer firefighters and emergency medical personnel from Stanton, Lenorah and Ackerly got some special training Saturday in Stanton with a mass casualty drill that was as lifelike as possible.
