Almost a third of voters already mark ballots here

MARTIN COUNTY - It should happen sometime Friday the 1000th Martin County voter will cast an early ballot at the elections administration office in Stanton. As it has been all across Texas, early voting in Martin County has remained brisk this week with polls closing Friday at 5 pm. Only two local races are contested-and of course much of the interest is on the statewide and national elections.

For third straight year, Grady is bound for state

SAN ANGELO - For the third consecutive year, the Grady Wildcats will be going to the state Class A cross country meet. The Wildcats finished third behind Comstock and Sanderson as a team to advance to the state meet Nov. 12 in Round Rock at Old Settlers Park. Cross Plains is the fourth team in the mix, but in the crying hole was Sands, which finished fifth as a team. The top 10 individuals and the top four teams in each of the four regions go to state. Comstock, which has three seniors, won the meet with 48 points followed by Sanderson at 69 points and Grady with 92. Cross Plains finished with 131 points.

Everything Delicious Bakery & Gifts has Grand Opening in downtown Stanton

STANTON - Domingo and Vanessa Silva started their story at the young ages of 14 and 15. He worked different jobs to provide for his family but their struggle was real. One day her mother-in-law passed on a gold nugget of inspiration, telling her to go after her dreams. When she passed away it “woke her up” and she started thinking more about that dream - the dream of her own bakery.

It’s a busy time of year

Early voting begins Oct. 24 for general election

MARTIN COUNTY - Early voting is just days away for two local races and all of the statewide and national elections. Early - or absentee voting - begins Oct. 24 which is next Monday and runs through Nov. 4 for the Nov. 8 general elections, the Martin County elections and, more specifically, the Grady Independent School District Board of Trustees race.

This one is indicative of several bigger snakes seen in Martin and surrounding counties lately. Be warned!

Serving Stanton, Lenorah, Tarzan and all of Martin County

Another Pro Petro truck caught fire in the past week, this one on I-20 Sunday morning on the outskirts of Stanton. Voluneer firefighters from Stanton and Lenorah fought the blaze, but there was nothing left to save of the truck. The driver was not injured in the incident, which was on the eastern edge of Stanton.

Wreck in Martin County

For the second time in less than two weeks, a truck from the same Big Spring company has been involved in a major wreck in Martin County. On Friday, west of Tarzan a truck owned by Stone Oilfield Trucking overturned and was completely destroyed but the driver with minor injuries, was able to walk away. Last week another truck from the same company was involved in a collision near Tarzan that killed a Martin County woman.

Hospital receives major statewide award for leadership, teamwork

STANTON - Announced several weeks ago, the news did not get near the emphasis it should have - the Swing Bed Team at the Martin County Hospital received a major statewide award from the Texas Organization of Rural and Community Hospitals. The award recognizes the teem for its work in leadership and establishing a culture “that puts the spotlight on this team for their hard work and dedication to rural health.”
