Historic snowfall event causes additional harvest, ginning delays across the area

Anyone in the cotton industry will tell you that every crop year is different, and 2015 undoubtedly will be remembered for its atypical weather events, from floods at planting time to a end-season blizzard. Just after Christmas, a winter storm system dumped more than 11 inches of snow in Lubbock and reportedly up to 20 inches in the northwestern part of the PCG service area, near the Texas-New Mexico state line.

Martin County Livestock Show opens this morning in Stanton

FFA and 4-H students from Stanton and Grady will be in Stanton next week for the annual Martin County Livestock Show, which runs Jan. 14, 15 and 16. Lambs , goats, pigs and cattle will begin showing up Jan. 14 for weighing and final grooming. The show begins at 8 am, Jan. 15 with the lamb division. Goats will be shown next followed by the heifers and the steers.

Power outages, traffic issues mostly resolved after storm

MARTIN COUNTY -Sharyland Utilities is announcing to customers in the West Texas service territories that crews are working to restore power due to several outages caused by high winds and severe winter weather in the area. The severe weather and icing also affected road conditions throughout the region.

BIG BEND - The steering committee of the Texas Cowboy Poetry Gathering has announced the poets and musicians who will participate in the night shows of the 30th Annual Texas Cowboy Poetry Gathering. The event will be Feb. 26 and 27 on the campus of Sul Ross State University.

WesTex works to keep prices down, channels on

MARTIN COUNTY - Contract negotiations between media giant AMC Networks and WesTex Telecom of Stanton could lead to an interruption of service. If an agreement is not reached by Dec. 31, AMC Networks could force WesTex Telecom to remove AMC and other channels from the line-up.
