Another

Another week and, yep, another bad wreck - this one wiped out the rest stop - WIPED it out - between Tarzan and Andrews when a belly-dump truck plowed through the roadside stop area and tore it into oblivion. No serious  njuries were reported.

Brilliant criminal minds at work at Tractor Supply

STANTON - It was bound to happen . . . put a bunch of new stuff out in front of a new business, slap a cable around it and see if some brilliant criminal mind won’t try to figure out a way to cut the cable and steal the stuff. Happened right here in Stanton this month when Tractor Supply opened, complete with all the new stuff outside as Tractor Supply stores do all over the country.

STANTON - After 44 years serving the medical needs of West Texans, Kyle Kendall is going to take some time off. Stanton Drug Store’s owner for the past 32 years, Kendall recently announced his retirement.

It’s soup time in Stanton again

MARTIN COUNTY - This year will mark the 26th Annual Great Texas Soup Cook-Off. This year’s event is scheduled for Feb. 21 at the Martin County Community Center from 5-7 p.m. The cook-off is the Martin County Convent’s yearly fundraiser to restore and protect the historic Carmelite Monastery building.

MARTIN COUNTY and WEST TEXAS - Hard to argue with more rain, snow and moisture of any kind, but if you’ve still got cotton in the field - or if you are trying to get cotton ginned - all this moisture continues to slow down the stripping and ginning season in Martin and surrounding counties as farmers and ginners try to get a handle on the end of this long season.

Filing period opens for city, school elections later in May

STANTON - Applications for two places on the Stanton City Council and three spots on the Stanton Independent School District Board of Trustees are available now for the spring election. Although that election is not until May 9, the filing period for all five posts began this week and runs through Feb. 27.

Numerous wrecks all across West Texas

A Colorado family was banged up pretty good when this pickup slid in the ice Friday and upended, sending a three-year-old to Lubbock by air and several others to area hospitals.
