Dr. Guy Story Brown

Brown, 66 of Slaton, a three time presidential appointee, university professor, author and Director of The Straight Gate, died  July 30, 2015, in Lubbock. He was born in Boulder, CO, Nov. 30, 1948, to Glenn Larry Brown  and Mary Prudie Brown (deceased) of Stanton. He graduated high school  at New Mexico Military Institute  in 1967, attended the American University in Paris, France, for  two years, and received his B.A.  from Abilene Christian University. He took his graduate studies at the University of Dallas, where he received his M.A. and his Ph.D.  in Literature and Political Philosophy with a dissertation on political implications in ancient and modern literary criticism.

Lura A. Perry

BIG SPRING - Lura A. Perry, 94 of Big Spring, died Aug. 4, 2015, in a local hospital. Graveside services were Aug. 6, at the Peace Chapel at Trinity Memorial Park with the Rev. Richard Dickerson officiating. She was born Sept. 15, 1920, in Borden County to John Gilmer and Betty Jane Graham Davis. She married Max Leroy Perry, Dec. 15, 1945, in Fallon, Nev. He preceded her in death Oct. 5, 1993. She was a lifelong resident of Borden and Howard counties, graduating from a one room school in Borden County. She resided at Lake Thomas for many years and fed anyone or animal that came by. She had been a member of East 4th Street Baptist Church in Big Spring and Vincent Baptist Church.  She is survived by a son, Glen Perry and wife Ann of New Braunfels; two grandchildren, Stacy Perry and wife LaDena of Stantonand Brent Perry and wife Jessica of San Angelo; four great grandchildren, Kally, Kaitlyn, Josey and Max.
