Dorothy Gean Long

STANTON - Dorothy Gean (Hull) Long died Oct. 8, 2015, in a local nursing home. Funeral services were Oct. 10, at the Nalley-Pickle and Welch Rosewood Chapel with Rick Cunningham, minister of the 14th and Main Church of Christ, officiating. Interment followed at Trinity Memorial Park. She was born March 6, 1942, to Willie (Bill) and Juanita Hull in Stanton, where she was raised and graduated high school. In 1960 she married Kimmie Juel Long and they had four sons. She was a member of the 14th and Main Church of Christ and was actively involved in the Big Spring Prospectors Club and Howard County Master Gardeners, until health problems caused her to stop. She enjoyed crafts and working in her flower beds. She enjoyed people, especially family. She kept records for the Hull Family reunions. She also volunteered at Parkview Nursing Home, visiting residents weekly for the past several years.

Rosie Lee Young

STANTON - Rosie Lee Young died Oct. 7, 2015, peacefully with her daughters by her side and her final days were spent surrounded by family, friends and her church community. Services and celebration of her life were Oct. 12 at First United Methodist Church in Stanton. Burial followed the service at Evergreen Cemetery. She was born on July 30, 1940, in Reagan, to Charles Warren and Mae Lois Alexander. She attended Midland Carver High School, and later attended Howard College, Odessa College and Texas Tech University and received a college degree in early childhood education. She dedicated her life to educating young children and spent more than 35 years at the Martin County Head Start program. Here she helped to lay the educational foundation of more than 700 young minds. She also worked at First United Methodist Church in the nursery and spent more than 35 years nurturing and loving many babies and toddlers who were entrusted in her care.

Eva Jean McMullin Smith

CONROE - Eva Jean McMullin Smith was born Apr. 6, 1932,in Stanton and died Sep. 13, 2015 in Conroe. She married Robert Sanders Smith on June 30, 1968. They lived in Humboldt, Tennessee until his death in 1988 where she was a member of Central Avenue Christian Church. She was a member of Veterans of Foreign War Auxiliary Post # 4709 Conroe. She was preceded in death by parents Charles Eugene McMullin and Estelle Wells Johnson, daughter, Linda Maxwell, sisters Betty Hanna and Wanda Harmon. She is survived by brother, John McMullin and wife Wynetta, sister, Judy Lawson, numerous nieces and nephews. She was an eccentric sister, aunt and friend who will be missed very much. Funeral Services were Sep. 18, at Earthman Resthaven Funeral Home, 13102 North Freeway, Houston, TX 77060. Instead of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Jean's name to Veterans of Foreign War Auxiliary Post #4709, P O Box 1807, Conroe, TX.

Sue Elliott

MIDLAND - Sue Elliott (Momma Sue), 74 of Midland, died surrounded by her family on Sep. 22, 2015, in Midland. She was born April 7, 1941, in Lamesa to Ima and A.L. Frith. She grew up in Stanton where she has made and kept lifelong friends. Later, she moved to Midland where she raised her four children. Momma Sue was loved and adored by all and was notorious for her infectious smile. She looked forward to Thursday night domino games of “42” with her siblings, as well as many years in bowling leagues, countless hours of Skip Bo, and quality time with her children and grandchildren. Her love for people and helping others led her to her career at Resthaven Memorial Park. She was preceded in death by her parents; sister Freda Christian; and brothers Waymon Frith and Adrian Frith.
