Verla Rae Doggett

STANTON - Verla Rae (Anderson) Doggett, of Stanton, died Dec. 26, 2015, at her home. She was born Sep. 24, 1927, to Mike and Vela Anderson, in Stanton. She attended the Stanton Schools. On May 15, 1950, she married James Richard Doggett and they made their home in Stanton, where she worked at the Post Office for 32 years, serving as Postmaster the last eight. She grew up in a family that loved music and played the piano for the weekly Stamps-Baxter Gospel singings for many years. After she retired from the Post Office, she played the keyboard for the Martin County Senior Citizens Old Sorehead Band. She and her sister, "Babe" Lindsey, also played in a family band called "The Cousins" with their cousins Mary Ellis and Billie Miles. She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Anna Lou Robinson, and her husband of 61 years, Richard.

Jimmie Morrison

LAMESA - Funeral services for Jimmie Morrison, 81 of Lamesa, were Dec. 29, 2015, at Second Baptist Church Chapel with Brother Dennis Adams officiating. Interment followed in Lamesa Memorial Park under the direction of Branon Funeral Home. He died Dec. 25, in Temple. He was born Oct. 5, 1934, in Boswell, OK, to Walter and Allie (Shaw) Morrison. He married Geneva Brown June 6, 1960, in Lamesa. She preceded him in death Jan. 15, 2013. They were married 52 years. He worked as a fire fighter for Lamesa Fire Department for 25 years. He is also preceded in death by his parents; sister, Euva Herriage; and brothers, Vernon Morrison, Eldridge Morrison, W.A. Morrison, and Titus Morrison.

Patsy Jeanne Odom

STANTON - Patsy Jeanne Odom, 84 of Stanton, died Dec. 18, 2015, in a Big Spring nursing home. Funeral services were Dec. 22, at the Stanton Downtown Church of Christ, with Kendall Tomlinson minister, and Ben Mereness of Amarillo, officiating. Interment followed at Evergreen Cemetery in Stanton. She was born May 11, 1931, in Big Spring, and married RP Odom Sr. January 21, 1950, in Stanton. She was a dedicated member of the Church of Christ. She was primarily a homemaker with a strong entrepreneurial spirit who loved being in the insurance and travel business as well. She was an incredible cook, artist, and so many more things. She was a warm and caring woman who loved her family and friends, and will be forever missed by her family and by a legion of friends. Survivors include one grandson, Robert P. Odom III of Stanton; one granddaughter, Angie Odom of Fort Worth; and her brothers Charles Kelly and John Dale Kelly, Jr.

Iva D. Wilson

SWEETWATER - Iva D. (Ikie) Wilson, age 93 of Sweetwater, died Nov. 28, 2015, at his residence. Per his wishes, his body was cremated. No services are planned at this time. Interment will take place at Sweetwater Cemetery at a later date. Arrangements were under the direction of Cate-Spencer & Trent Funeral Home. He was born on Oct. 9, 1922, to Hersey and Virginia Wilson. He taught auto mechanics at TSTI, retiring in 1986. After retirement he owned a lawnmower repair service for many years. He loved tinkering in his shop. He married Charlotte Mullins on March 30, 1941, in Sweetwater. He is survived by his daughter, Lynn Atchison and husband Tommy of Stanton; one sister, Mary Lynn Aucutt of Snyder; brother-in-law, Lawrence Mullins of Sweetwater; sister-in-law, Polly Boyd of Fort Worth; and special friends, Dan Grimaldo, Alton Pyburn and Manuel Jaramillo. He was preceded in death by his wife, Charlotte Wilson.

Mark J. Austin

STANTON - Mark J. Austin, 62 of Stanton, died Nov. 27, 2015, at Midland Memorial Hospital. The family will receive friends Dec. 4, from 5-7 pm at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home in Midland. He was born on July 2, 1953, to Robert James Austin and Jerry Austin in Odessa. He graduated from Fort Stockton High School and then went on to college at the College of Sequoias, Midland College and the University of Texas at the Permian Basin. He served the country in the Marine Corps as a sergeant from Aug. 9, 1971, to Aug. 8, 1975. He married the love of his life, Pamela Pogue on Jan. 4, 1982. He worked for Pioneer Resources as an operations foreman until his passing. He enjoyed reading his Bible, hiking with his family, rocks and minerals, guns, knives, spending time with his dogs, horses, and most of all his grandchildren. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials be donated to the Wounded Warrior Project, PO BOX 758517, Topeka, KS 66675.

Walter P. Hildreth, Jr.

Walter P. Hildreth, Jr., 87 of Lenorah, died Nov. 19, 2015, at his residence. Graveside services were Nov. 23, at the Evergreen Cemetery Chapel in Stanton. He was born Jan. 11, 1928, in Big Spring, to Walter Sr. and Aetna May Hildreth. He married Jean Anderson, Nov. 3, 1952, in Hobbs, NM. He was a United States Air Force veteran serving in World War II and was a longtime resident of Lenorah. He worked at the Lenorah gin for 40 years and the Martin County Fresh Water District for 26 years. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Jean Hildreth; one son, Robert P. Hildreth and wife Trisha; two daughters, Debbie McMurry and husband Teddy and Kimberly Decker-Welch and husband Cord; six grandchildren, Jennifer Church Greer and husband Greg, Jeremy Church, Eric Decker and wife Felicia, Caitlyn Decker and husband Travis, Thomas Keagy and wife Elizabeth and Billy Welch; four great grandchildren, TJ Keagy, Briley Greer, Jolie Greer and Alex Church; one brother; and three sisters.

Elsa DeLeon

Funeral mass for Elsa DeLeon, of Stanton, was Nov. 25 at St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church in CampWood. Interment followed at Garden of Memories Cemetery in CampWood. A Rosary Vigil was Nov. 24 at Nelson Funeral Home and Chapel in CampWood. She was born May 16, 1929, in CampWood and died Nov. 23, 2015. She was a resident of Stanton, a homemaker and a loving mother that will be dearly missed. She is preceded in death by her husband Jose Cruz DeLeon and a daughter Lydia Reyes. She is survived by her daughters; Enedina Garanzuay of Stanton and Enedelia Nevarez of CampWood; sons, Jose Cruz DeLeon  Jr. Of Stanton and Ismael DeLeon of Fort Worth; sisters, Lucia Hidalgo of Odessa, Martina Lopez of Uvalde and Virginia Rendon of San Antonio; brothers, Tomas Valenzuela and Catarino Valenzuela both of CampWood; 13 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren and one great great-grandchild. Local Services are under the direction of Stanton Memorial Funeral Home and Chapel.

Services Nov. 23 for former Stanton resident Howard

COLORADO CITY - Graveside services for Mildred Allen Bell Howard, 93, will be Nov. 23 in Colorado City cemetery in Colorado City. Mrs. Howard died Nov. 17, 2015, at Memorial Hospital in Nacogdoches. She was born on June 19, 1922, in Corsicana. She moved to Wink in 1935 with her parents. She was elected school queen and graduated from Wink in 1939. She received her teaching degree from Sul Ross State University. She married Ira Milton Howard, June 8, 1942, in Junction. She taught for 39 years in the Wink and Monahans schools. She and Milton moved from Wink to Stanton, then to Colorado City in 2002. She was preceded in death by parents, Reno W and Rosa Jane (Way) Bell, sisters Joyce W. Bell and Madeline L. Bell Kulp, and daughter Karen Elaine Howard White.
