Douglas Nelson Hopkins

RUIDOSO, N.M.MIDLAND - Douglas Nelson “Hopper” Hopkins died July 24, 2015. He was born in Jena, Louisiana, to Carlton Douglas “Dugan” Hopkins and Linda Nelson Hopkins on Aug. 10, 1961. His family moved to Crane in 1971 where he attended school until his junior year. He then moved to Midland where he graduated from Midland Lee High School in 1979. He attended Midland College, Texas Tech University and Angelo State University where he graduated in 1984. His first day there he met his love and wife, Carrie Lynn York. They were married in 1989. He worked in the oilfield from age 16 off and on and was currently employed by Nova Star, LP. He never met a stranger and had friends throughout the country. He helped anyone in need. He was a devoted and loving husband, dad, son, brother, uncle and friend. He was an avid nature lover, who enjoyed being in the beautiful mountains of New Mexico and Colorado. He inherited his love of traveling the roads of America from his Mom and Pawpaw Nelson.

Josefa Ornelas Sanchez

STANTON - Josefa Ornelas Sanchez, 74, died July 24, 2015. Funeral services were July 25 at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Stanton with Msgr. Tim Schwertner officiating. Interment followed at the St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. She was born in San Antonio Del Bravo, Chihuahua, Mexico, on Aug. 13, 1940, to Gonzalo Ornelas and Crispina Martinez Ornelas. She married Frank Sanchez in Candelaria in 1959. She was employed with and retired from the Martin County Hospital after years of faithful service. She is preceded in death by her parents and siblings, Socorro Ornelas, Felipe Ornelas, Ramon Ornelas, Herminia Pallares, and Remidios Herrera She is survived by four sons, Fabian Sanchez and wife Heidi of Olympia, WA, Guadalupe Sanchez and wife Yvette, Oscar Ornelas Sanchez and wife Anita of Midland and George O. Sanchez and wife Jennifer of Harlingen; two daughters, Christina Tayyem and husband Ziad of Arlington and Nancy Sanchez of Midland; four sisters,

James I. Moore

BIG SPRING - James I. Moore, 80 of Big Spring and formerly of Stanton, died July 23, 2015, and was born March 24, 1935, in Hamlin, to J.I. and Vivian Sylvester (McIntosh) Moore. He married Margaret Ann Pierce May 28, 1955 in Spur. They moved to Lomax from Snyder in 1960. He worked on ranches until 1982 when he went to work for the Martin County Road and Bridge Department. He retired in 1998 to take care of his wife, Margaret until her death in 2000. He then married Evelyn Fox April 11, 2007. They spent their time traveling to senior dances all over and thoroughly enjoyed themselves. He always had a joke or was picking on someone. If he was not picking at you, he must not have liked you. Those who left before him were his parents, his first wife, and a brother, Freddy Joe Moore. Survivors include his wife, Evelyn of Big Spring; one son, James  “Buttons” Moore, Jr. and wife, Vicki of Andrews; two step daughters, Regina Phillips and husband, Marvin of Lamesa, and Tricia Vess

Peggy Ann Pearson

MIDLAND - Peggy Ann Pearson, 81, died July 18, 2015. Graveside service was in Greenwood Memorial Park. She was born Oct. 13, 1933, in Stanton to Robert Henson and Leafie Missouri, who preceded her in death. She was raised on the west side of Fort Worth and graduated from Arlington Heights High School. Dave Pearson arrived in her life in 1950 and the two were married in 1951. They were partners in business and operated a successful equipment company. Dave was in charge of sales and she managed the business office. She enjoyed life, especially when family was near. She surrounded those around her with generosity and love. Survivors include her husband of 64 years, Dave Pearson; daughter, Lynn Steakley and husband, Steve; grandchildren, Lia and Graeme; and great-grandchildren, Drew, Liv and Ella.

Victoriano L. Chavez

SONORA - Victoriano L. Chavez, 78 of San Antonio, died July 19, 2015, in San Antonio. Funeral services were July 22, at St. Ann’s Catholic Church. Burial followed in Sonora Cemetery. Survivors include his wife Rosalva Chavez of San Antonio; son Albert J. Chavez of Stanton; daughters Leticia Chevannes of Ft. Worth, Delma Chavez Garcia of San Antonio and Cindy Chavez of Helotes; brothers Frank Chavez, Juan Chavez, Tiodoro Chavez, Carlos Deleon and Santo Deleon; sisters Dora Deleon and Rosalinda DeLaCruz.

Funeral services for Danial Lopez Sr. were at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Stanton July 3, 2015, with Father Timothy Schwertner officiating. Burial was at  St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery immediately following the services.

Mary Ann Fairchild Phillips

Mary Ann Fairchild Phillips, 78 of Stanton, died July 8, 2015 at Manor Park in Midland. Funeral services are at 11 am, July 13 at First Baptist Church in Stanton with Rev. David Harp, pastor, officiating.  Graveside services are at 2 pm, Monday at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Odessa. She was born Dec. 7, 1936, in Colorado City and married Raymond Phillips Oct. 23, 1993 in Odessa. She graduated valedictorian from Forsan High School and was also homecoming queen. She attended Howard College and had worked as a secretary for various companies until retiring. Survivors include her husband, Raymond Phillips of Stanton; one daughter, Teresa Miller and  husband Bill of Midland; one brother, Dan Fairchild and wife Deffie of Comanche; two granddaughters, Samantha Landers and husband David of Odessa and Jennifer Miller of Midland; five great-grandchildren; four step-children, Nancy

Debbie Phillips

SNYDER - Debbie Phillips , 59 of Snyder, died July 5, 2015, in Lubbock. There will be a private graveside service for Mrs. Phillips. A memorial service was July 9 at First United Methodist Church of Snyder with Rev. Craig Curry officiating and Rev. Dave Blackwell assisting. Services were under the direction of Bell-Cypert-Seale Funeral Home.  Mrs. Phillips was born on June 12, 1956, in Abilene to Richard and Peggy (Schlueter) Payne.

Della Mildred Sanders

MIDLAND - Della Mildred Sanders, 94 of Midland, died June 29, 2015. Services were July 2 at the First UnitedMethodist Church in Kermit. Pastor Elinor Ruth Fowler officiated. Private Internment  was at Suggs Cemetery in Hearne. She was born on Jan. 18, 1921, in Winters the fourth of six children of Robert and Floy Pearl Brewer. She married Erwin Nunley on Oct.8, 1938, in Stanton. Together, they moved to Kermit and had a son, Darwin Nunley, on April 6, 1950. They moved to Hearne in 1976.  After her first husband died, she married James “Jim” Sanderson March 21, 1983, in Hearne. They moved back to Kermit in 1983 and she lived there the remainder of her life. She often worked as a bank teller, both in Kermit and Hearne. She was a lifelong member of the First United Methodist Church.  Her greatest joys were her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She enjoyed visiting with friends on the telephone and solving crosswords.

Ramon “Monche” S. Montez

Ramon “Monche” S. Montez, 63 of Stanton, died June 14, 2015, at his residence. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. June 19, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Stanton. Interment will follow at St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery. A rosary service was June 18 at the Gilbreath Funeral Home. He was born April 9, 1952, in Stanton and married Eva Martinez Nov. 29, 1975, in Stanton. He was a hard worker and drove a truck for Helena Chemical. He also  oved sports of all kinds. He will be greatly missed. He is survived by his wife, Eva Montez of Stanton; one son, Raymond Montez; two daughters, Monica Hardin and fiance, Corey Young, and Jessica Montez and fiance,  uben Hernandez, all of Stanton; ten grandchildren, Abigail, Mia, Reneasame, Khloe, Aaron, Ashlea, Julian, Izack, Ruben, Jr., and Alexandria; three step-grandchildren, Sincere, Jonathan, Brisa; two brothers, Luis Montez and
