Elizabeth Chase

ABILENE - Elizabeth L. “Bea” Chase died Sept. 28, 2014, after a brief battle with cancer. She was born Oct. 2, 1926, in Breckenridge. She and her family moved to Abilene in 1933. She attended Abilene public schools, graduating from Abilene High School in 1944. During her days at AHS she made many lifelong friends, including a group that called themselves the “Girls of 44” with whom she shared a bond that never ended. She attended Hardin Simmons University as a freshman before marrying her soul mate and “love of her life” Lewis J. Chase on April 23, 1945. Her life can be summed up in three words, Faith, Family and Friends. She was a Charter Member of Brookhollow Christian Church where she served on the Board, served as a Deacon and as President of the Christian Women’s Fellowship numerous times.Second only to her faith, family was the most important thing in her life. Family included not only her biological family members but her extended “adopted” family as well.

Betty Sue Long Spencer

PURMELA - Funeral Services for Betty S. Spencer were Sept. 30, at Smith’s Cemetery in Purmela. She was born Jan. 27, 1925, in Kingsville, MO and died Sept. 28, 2014. She was homemaker and lived in Midland. She is survived by her son Alvin Faglie and his wife Shirley of Midland; 15 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. She is proceded in death by husband Alvin Faglie Sr. and Lynn Spencer. Sons Martin Neal Faglie, Joe Dale Faglie and Johnny Ray Faglie.

Jesus Martinez

STANTON - Funeral mass for Jesus Martinez was Sept. 26, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church with Father Tim Schwertner officiating, interment followed at the St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery. He died Sept. 24, 2014 and was born on June 26, 1926, in Mexico. He lived in Stanton and was a farmer for many years. He is survived by his daughter Soledad Martinez and grandson Daniel Marmolejo of Midland and friend Janie Villa of Stanton.

Jeanne Ann Poling

MIDLAND - Jeanne Ann Poling died Sept. 21, 2014. Memorial services will be Sept. 26, 2014 at Moore Funeral Home-Bowen Chapel. She was born May 18, 1950, to Margaret and Charles Greener in Stanton and married Charles Larry Poling on Nov. 30, 1968. She loved being a mother and grandmother; she enjoyed cooking, shopping and decorating her house. She helped establish ETLS Inc. and loved to travel to Hawaii and Alaska. She was preceded in death by her father and her brother, Gary Greener. Survivors include her husband, Charles Larry Poling; children, Kathy Poling, Dianne Jasso, David Poling and Christine Stevens; grandchildren, Echo, Cage and Dash Jasso, Lily and Elise Poling, Liberty Torrance and Hannah Stevens; mother, Margaret Greener; and sister, Judith Schneider.

PECOS - Esequiela Lopez Corralez, 58 of Pecos, died Sep. 1, 2014, at Medical Center Hospital in Odessa. Funeral services were Sep. 4, at Santa Rosa De Lima Catholic Church in Pecos. Burial was at Greenwood Cemetery in  Pecos. Arrangements were by Peaceful Garden Funeral Home of Pecos. She was born in Fort Stockton. She was a housekeeper. She was Catholic. Survivors include her husband, Rafael Corralez Jr. of Pecos; daughters, Christina Martinez and Viviana Martinez, both of Pecos; sons, Arturo Martinez Jr. and Ruben Martinez, both of Pecos; brothers, Fernando Lopez, Ector Lopez, Beto Lopez and Felipe Lopez, all of Odessa, Braulio Lopez of Fort Stockton and Rogelio Lopez of Abilene; and sisters, Dale Rodriguez of La Mesa, Josephina Dominguez of Fort Stockton and Amelia Lopez of Stanton

PECOS - Juan V. Portillo Jr., 84 of Pecos, died Tuesday, Sep. 2, 2014, at Reeves County Hospital in Pecos. Rosary was said Sep. 4 at Peaceful Garden Funeral Home Chapel in Pecos. Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. today at  Santa Rosa De Lima Catholic Church in Pecos. Burial will be at Mt. Evergreen Cemetery in Pecos. Arrangements are by Peaceful Garden Funeral Home of Pecos. He was born in Alpine. He was a retired teacher. He was Catholic.Survivors include her sons, Matthew Portillo of San Diego and Paul Portillo of El Paso; daughters, Linda Dutchover of Odessa, Esmeralda Torres of Pecos, Monica Estrada of Santa Clarita, Calif., and Bernadette Lopez of Hutto; brothers, Daniel Portillo and Richard Portillo, both of Alpine, and Antonio Portillo of Pecos; sisters, Lucy Acuna of Stanton and Mary Ramos of Pecos; 34 grandchildren; and 36 great-grandchildren.
