Class A tennis world

Connor Sales

Connor Sales, a senior at Stanton High School, signed a letter of intent on May 17 to play basketball at Bethany College in Kansas. He will be receiving scholarships for both basketball and academics

Lyon just a second away from gold; Grady relay team takes fourth at state

STANTON – The Grady Wildcats track team wrapped up an impressive season at the State Track and Field championships at Mike A. Myers Stadium at the University of Texas in Austin on May 11 and 12.

Alyssa Lyon was part of one of the closest races of the day as she was less than a second from winning gold. Instead, she managed fourth place in the 300 meter hurdles with a strong time of 47.96.

Stanton tennis performs well at district meet

COLORADO CITY - Stanton Junior High came home with a few medals from the District 5-AAA Junior High Tennis tournament in Colorado City on May 5. Winning district titles for Stanton were Casey Buchanan and Macy Nix for their team performance in the eighth grade mixed doubles division and Ryan Peterson for his dominance in the seventh grade boys singles division.

Junior High Wildcats dominate district tennis meet

GRADY - Grady’s junior high boys and girls
tennis teams wont he district title on May 5 at Grady
High School.

Ashley Hill won the girls singles title and
Braden Welch took home the boys singles title.
Second place honors went to Kinley
McMorries in girls single and Franki Jimenez in
boys singles.

Aden Hendricks and Tyler Dick earned the
bronze medal in boys doubles while Quint Harrell
was fourth in the boys singles bracket and the
team of Jacob Rodgers and Aaron Rodgers was
fourth in the boys doubles division

Lyon headed to state for second straight year

SAN ANGELO – The Grady Lady Wildcats track and field team were in San Angelo this past weekend competing in the Region II-A track and field meet at LeGrand Stadium at Angelo State University.

The highlight of the meet for the Wildcats was the performance of junior Alyssa Lyon who qualified for the state meet in the 300 meter hurdles. Lyon qualified for the finals with a prelim time of 49.41 and returned on Saturday to post a personal best time of 48.95 for a second place finish, just .08 seconds behind first place.

Lyon was third in the triple jump with her best mark measuring 34-11.75 and she was eighth in the high jump by clearing 4-6.

Jimenez, mile relay team heading to state

HERMLEIGH – The Grady Wildcats will be returning to the state track meet after a stellar performance at the Region II-A track and field me at Angelo State University in San Angelo Apr. 27- 28.

Grady’s 4x400 relay team of Marshall Cox, Cristian Jimenez, Jordan Rodriguez and Alijah Ontiveros punched its ticket to state with a gold medal time of 3:30.77.

Jimenez will also be going to state as an individual in the 400 meter dash. His third place time of 51.68 was good enough for third at regionals and earned him the wild card for state.
