Grady girls second, boys third in final JV meet

ROPES – The Grady High School junior varsity track teams wrapped up their season last week at Peoples Bank Stadium at Ropes High School with the District 7A and District 8A Track and Field Meet. The Lady Wildcats finished second in the team standings with Klondike winning the team title and Ropes taking third. Fourth place went to O’Donnell, fifth was Midland TLCA, sixth Meadow and seventh was Borden County. The junior varsity boys were third in the team standings with Borden County and Klondike taking the top two places. Ropes earned fourth placed followed by Meadow in fifth and Sands in sixth. Seventh place went to Garden City and eighth place was O’Donnell. Wellman-Union and Loop rounded out the team standings finishing ninth and tenth. Event Results Girls

North, Simpson, Rodriguez, Smith head to Region I, Class AAA track meet Friday

JIM NED – The District 5-AAA and District 6-AAA came together last week to compete in the Area Track and Field Meet at Indian Stadium in Jim Ned. Jim Ned, Bangs and Early were the top three teams in the boys division and Clyde, Merkel and Jim Ned were the top teams in the girls division. Stanton’s boys and girls both finished 11th in the respective team standings. Event Results: Girls 100 Meter

Short, Ruiz finish in second to make state net tourney

LEVELLAND – Grady’s tennis duo, Raina Short and Zoey Ruiz, finished second at the Region 1 Class A Girls Doubles Tennis Tournament on Apr. 17 and 18 at South Plains College in Levelland and qualified for the state meet.

Short and Ruiz opened the day with a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Kyndall Rohan and Abby Schilling of Follett.

The second round was a little more difficult but Short and Ruiz beat Brynlii Chandler and Addyson Bowles of Valley 6-0, 4-6, 6-0.

Wildcats brave the weather to punch a ticket to state

LUBBOCK – Grady High School will be sending six more athletes to a state competition following some stellar performances at the Region I Class A Golf Tournament in Lubbock Apr. 22 and 23 in some brutal weather.

The Grady girls team played at the Reece Golf Center in Lubbock and finished second in the team standings to sign their ticket to state.

Grady’s lone Wildcat played his tournament at the Lake Ridge Country Club and tied for third place as an individual medalist to punch his ticket.

In the girls division, Garden City won the team title with 779 strokes followed by Grady in second with a score of 792 and Happy claimed third place with a total of 814.

Grady girls fifth, boys tied in fourth at district track

ROPES – The District 7-A and District 8-A came together this week to compete in the Area Track and Field Meet at Peoples Bank Stadium at Ropes High School. Borden County won the girls division with 110 points. Garden City finished second with 106 points and Ropes rounded out the top three with 96 points. Fourth place went to Sands with 74 and Grady finished fifth with 73 points.

Stanton Buffaloes qualify nine for area track meet on Apr. 17

CLYDE – Stanton High School will have a handful of athletes moving on to the area round of track and field competition following some stellar performances at the District 5-AAA Track and Field Meet in Clyde last week. The varsity boys finished fourth in the team standings with Jim Ned winning the team title. Clyde won the junior varsity boys division and Stanton was again fourth. For the varsity girls, Clyde was the team champion and Stanton finished fifth. In the junior varsity division Clyde was first and Stanton was seventh. Varsity Boys Results: 100 Meter Tim Avila, 12.03; Nathaniel Lopez, 12.39; Peyton Barnhill, 12.57. 200 Meter

Grady grabs a pair of thirds in junior high track

GARDEN CITY – Grady took third place in both divisions of the District 8-A Junior High Track Meet at Garden City High School on Saturday. Garden City won the boys division with 158 points. Sands finished second with 149 and Grady rounded out the top three with 120 points. Fourth place went to Klondike with 95 followed by Borden County in fifth with 45, Midland TLCA sixth scoing 42 and Garden City Black was seventh with five points. The girls’ division champion was Borden County with 154 points. Klondike placed second with 138 points and Grady made the podium in third place with a total of 80 points. Garden City finished fourth scoring 71 points while Midland TLCA was fifth with 70, Sands placed sixth with 52 and Garden City Black was seventh. Boys results: 100 Meter

Former Major League pitcher
