Buffalo teams finished second in Stanton Relays

STANTON - The Stanton junior varsity and varsity boy’s track teams both finished second in the Stanton Invitational Relay last Thursday in Stanton.

In the junior varsity division the Post Antelopes won the meet and Colorado City finished third.

Middle school Buffaloes the best on the oval in combined scores

STANTON - The Buffaloes track teams hosted the Stanton Middle School Invitational last Friday and won the combined team crowns in both the seventh and eighth grade divisions.

The seventh grade girls team was fourth with 85 points.

Longhorns end Wildcats playoff run

KERMIT - Grady’s playoff road came to a dead end Tuesday night in Kermit when the Buena Vista Longhorns bested the Wildcats 72-52 in the Region II Class A Regional Quarterfinal.

Just like the first two rounds for Grady, the game was decided by the Wildcats’ play in the third quarter..

Wildcats maul Vaqueros in Class A area championship

MONAHANS - Another dominating third quarter performance in the area round of the Class A state playoffs propelled the Grady Wildcats to a 70-56 win over Sierra Blanca at Monahans High School last Friday night.

Sierra Blanca won the tip but it was Grady jumping out to a 4-1 lead, mostly because the Vaqueros committed three turnovers in their first five possessions.

Buffs softball finishes runner-up in I-20 Classic

MONAHANS - Stanton’s varsity girls softball team continues to improve with each game and this past weekend the Lady Buffs finished second out of the silver bracket in the I-20 Lead-Off Classic in Monahans.

Stanton clinched its first round victory with a handful of runs in the fifth inning to beat McCamey 11-6.

Grady finishes third; plays Ira Tuesday in playoffs

GRADY - The Grady Wildcats took care of business and dispatched the Sands Mustangs and Loop Longhorns with ease las week to solidify a berth in the Class A State Playoffs with a third place district finish.

Grady dusted Sands on Feb. 6 with a 12-3 opening quarter. The lead grew to double digits through the second quarter before the Wildcats eventually closed the coffin with a 44-28 victory.

Comanche mounts comeback to defeat Stanton

ABILENE - To call it a dramatic turnaround might be an understatement.

In fact, one may be tempted to label Comanche’s 41- 33 Region I-3A bi-district win over Stanton an about-face.

Laboring through one of their worst halves of the season, the Maidens trailed 20-8 at halftime after shooting an alarming 11.5 percent and being outrebounded 26-18.
