Grady crushes rival Sands 70-38

Grady crushes rival Sands 70-38

GRADY – The Grady Wildcats are still in the playoff hunt after a dominating 70-38 win over rival Sands at M.W. Tunnel Field in Grady on Friday night.

The two offenses started the game trading touchdowns but late in the first quarter Grady’s Isaiah Ontiveros picked off a Sand’s pass in the end zone giving Grady the ball back and eventually some breathing room when the Wildcats scored their fourth touchdown.

The Wildcats had built a 32-18 lead with just seconds remaining in the first half. Sands was again knocking on the end zone door but Grady tightened its boot straps and kept the Mustangs out of the end zone which preserved the 14-point halftime lead.

The halftime rest was what the doctor ordered for Grady while it seemed Sand’s didn’t make it out of the locker room for the third quarter.

The first 10 minutes of the second half were all Grady with the Wildcats scoring 24 points while holding the Mustangs scoreless.

Eagles fly past Buffaloes 13-7

Eagles fly past Buffaloes 13-7

STANTON – Lubbock Roosevelt stole a victory from Stanton last week after the Buffaloes took a slim 13-7 lead and had all the momentum. Unfortunately, the Buffs could not capitalize on several Eagle mistakes and allowed Roosevelt a 29-13 district win.

Stanton’s offense was none existent in the first quarter with the Buffs running six offensive plays and being forced to punt twice.

Not being able to move the ball put the Buff’s defense in a tough position, defensing a short field. The first time the defense stood strong and recovered a fumble on the goal line, but the second time Roosevelt carried the ball in for six points.
