Stanton Buffaloes excited for new season; Lamesa scrimmage today

STANTON – It was the first competitive football action of the year for the Stanton Buffaloes as Fort Stockton rolled into town last Saturday for an early weekend scrimmage. The Buffalo’s coaching staff wasn’t looking to do anything fancy on either side of the ball they were just wanting to see the offense sustain some drives and for the defense to key its reads correctly and take care of the proper assignments.

GRADY – Just like the other 1200 school districts in Texas, the Grady Wildcats donned the full football uniform this past week the start the acclimation process of full contact. Grady Coach Brent Lucas has been pleased with the Wildcats first couple weeks of effort and practice.

LEVELLAND - With an eye on the 2020 Olympics, Sydney Gonzales of Grady has been selected to the Olympic Development Team, which focuses on power tumbling and trampoline. She and teammate Lexi Vigil from Levelland are members of the Acrospirits Tumbling and Elite Team.

Bout Tree Fiddy wins Colorado futurity; Stanton ties everywhere you look

Bout Tree Fiddy, a homebred Ivory James gelding racing for Patrick Swan and Rusty Allred and the secondfastest qualifier, reached the wire first in the $117,780 Rocky Mountain Futurity at Arapahoe Park on Sunday. Ridden by Russell Vicchrilli for trainer Tomey Swan and aided by a reported 10-mph tail wind, Bout Tree Fiddy defeated 2-1 favorite In Kuh Hoots by one length in :17.387. The Oklahoma-bred gelding was coming off of a second-place finish to fastest qualifier Mini Mink in the first of five trials on June 24.

Buffs, ‘Cats open workouts for 2016

Stanton High School and Grady High School coaching staffs led their groups of athletes onto thepractice fields early Monday morning for the first practices of 2016. Stanton coaches were followed onto the field by 64 players while Grady coaches enjoyed watching 16 players take the field for drills.

Stanton Buffalo Football Camp - July 25-27

Camp participants were instructed in throwing and catching mechanics and the Hawk tackling system that is used by the Buffaloes. They spent time playing Buff football each day and had a great time.

Texas Amateur Athletic Federation Games of Texas State Meet – Local teens qualified for the State Meet in McAllen July 28-31. Ida Ortiz qualified for the 800m run, 300m hurdles and 1600m run. Jessica Holguin qualified in the 100m dash, 200m dash and 400m dash.

Martin County athlete competing at rodeo finals

SHAWNEE, OKLA. - Delani Wood of Martin County is competing in the 24th annual International Finals Youth Rodeo July 10-15 at the Heart of Oklahoma Exposition Center in Shawnee, Okla. Wood is participating in the world’s richest youth rodeo, hoping to win her share of more than $200,000 in prize money and saddles and buckles.
