Stanton brilliant in first half, crumbles in second half

STANTON – Stanton fell to 0-2 on the season with a 38-8 loss to Wink Friday at Wildcat Stadium in Wink. The Buffaloes did improve on both sides of the ball as they scored their first touchdown of the  season and did not allow as many points in their second week of action as they did in  the season opener to Seagraves.

Friday night stripes on West, North Texas endangered lists

WEST TEXAS - The biggest sporting event of fall, Texas high school football, just started a couple weeks ago and a potential catastrophe is looming on the horizon. There are simply not enough officials to go around. Wayne Bernier will start his 21st year officiating high school football games this fall and calls it “an epidemic.”

Buffalo cross country teams run in Midland

MIDLAND - The Stanton cross country teams began the season on Saturday at the Tall City Invitational hosted by Midland Classical Academy at Rock the Desert venue. The varsity girls finished 12th overall, junior varsity girls were 19th, and the boys were 10th. Leading the way for the varsity girls was freshman Ida Ortiz, earning a medal by finishing in 7th place with 13:57.

Grady Wildcats fall to Highland Hornets in classic six man football battle

GRADY – The night sky at the corner of Highways 176 and 829 was lit up with the bright stadium lights from M.W. Tunnell Field at Grady High School. The Wildcat fans were drawn to the brilliant glow like moths to a flame as excitement churned deep within, all in anticipation of another Grady football season. The Wildcats home opener was a tough contest against the Highland Hornets. Not so much because Grady could not handle the Hornet talent, but because Grady could not stop inflicting damage on itself with turnovers.

Grady opens season at home with Higland

Grady, Marfa and Garden City came together last Friday for a round robin scrimmage at Garden City. The Wildcats stepped up a division for this scrimmage as they were the smallest school onthe field with both Garden City and Marfa competing in Class A Division I this season. Also, both schools are expected to finish in the top two of their respective district and make the state playoffs

Buffaloes ready for Seagraves this Friday

Another week and another successful scrimmage for the Stanton Buffaloes. Stanton headed north last Thursday for its second scrimmage of the season against Lamesa. The Golden Tornadoes are a Class 4A D-II team with some talent and speed that gave the Buffs a good look at what to expect in the upcoming season.

Dozens enjoy summer tennis camp

STANTON - More than 35 Stanton, Grady, and Andrews youngsters enjoyed tennis lessons, tennis games, and simulation to game point scenarios that will aid their young minds into improving and competing against district foes throughout their careers.

Stanton Buffaloes excited for new season; Lamesa scrimmage today

STANTON – It was the first competitive football action of the year for the Stanton Buffaloes as Fort Stockton rolled into town last Saturday for an early weekend scrimmage. The Buffalo’s coaching staff wasn’t looking to do anything fancy on either side of the ball they were just wanting to see the offense sustain some drives and for the defense to key its reads correctly and take care of the proper assignments.

Grady ready for first scrimmage; preparing for week zero

GRADY – Just like the other 1200 school districts in Texas, the Grady Wildcats donned the full football uniform this past week the start the acclimation process of full contact. Grady Coach Brent Lucas has been pleased with the Wildcats first couple weeks of effort and practice.
