Wildcats destroy the competition, wins tournament

GRADY - The Grady 8th grade girls won the Grady junior high tournament on Saturday.

They defeated Forsan B team 41-4.

Tatum North 11, Elena Jimenez 10, Samantha Griffin 10, Kloe Brown 6, Kaylee Coody 2, Sindy Cruz 2.

Lady Cats split with Borden County, Garden City to stay in playoff hunt

GRADY - Grady’s varsity girls played Borden County and Garden CIty over the last week and split the two contests to stay in the Class A playoff hunt.

The recent losing skid has dropped Grady to No. 24 in the recent Texas Association Basketball Coaches rankins.

Stanton battles Midland TLCA, Jim Ned

STANTON – Stanton’s freshmen teams were in action against Midland TLCA and Jim Ned earlier this month.

The ninth grade girls team crushed Midland 35-17 on Jan. 7.

The Buffs started slow scoring only five points in the first quarter. But a 22-point explosion over the next two periods already gave Stanton enough points to win.

The Lady Buffs added another eight point in the final quarter for the victory.

Raze led Stanton in scoring with seven points and Hensley added six.

Grady junior varsity loses two this week

GRADY – It was a rough week for Grady’s junior varsity boys as they lost two games to Hermleigh and Westbrook.

The first game back from Christmas break was a 57-24 loss to Hermleigh.

Austin Aaron scored a team high 13 points while Austin Snider had five, Cobe Cortez three and Colt Carson three.

Grady teams avenge losses, beats Westbrook

GRADY – Grady’s varsity and junior varsity girls started off 2020 with two big wins against Westbrook.

Grady lost to Westbrook in the very first game of the season, but after huge improvements by the varsity and junior varsity Wildcats, Grady beat Westbrook with big wins at home on last Tuesday night.

Grady’s junior varsity won 30-21.

Jordan brothers help propel Lubbock Cooper Pirates to historic season

LUBBOCK - 2019 was a history making season for the 13-2 Lubbock Cooper Pirates football team. Kyler Jordan and Kelan Jordan are shown above holding the Region 1 Class 5A-Division II regional championship trophy.

Being the regional champions, the Pirates advanced to the State Semi-Finals for the first time in school history. The Pirates were defeated 28 - 21 by the perennial state power Aledo Bearcats, who went on to win a record ninth state title the following week. The 13 wins for the 2019 Pirate team tied the school record set by the 2018 13-1 team.

Lady Buffs start district 0-2

STANTON – Stanton’s varsity girls struggled with their first week of district basketball action losing two games to Anson and Colorado City.

On Dec. 17, Anson jumped on Stanton early and never looked back winning 60-22.

Hailea Vera Cruz led the Lady Buffs with seven points and Amelia Bratcher and Mariah Brooks had four points each.

Analiese Gonzales tossed in three points and Gabby Rodriguez and Sarah Denson tallied two points each.

Grady too much for TLCA, wins 49-11

MIDLAND - Grady’s junior high boy’s basketball team had an outstanding performance Monday night beating Midland TLCA 49-11.

Grady started the game with a 10-5 run and held TLCA scoreless in the second quarter to take a 20-5 halftime advantage.

Grady increased its lead to 39-11 after the third quarter and held TLCA scoreless again in the fourth quarter for the lopsided 49-11 victory.

Junior high Cats have no problem with TLCA

MIDLAND - Grady’s junior high girls played at Midland TLCA on Monday and came away with two wins.

The seventh grade won 12-5.

Nayce McMorries had five points, Selig Burge three, Ariana Rodriguez two, and Rylan O'Donnell two.
