Grady beats Midland, Sands to finish third in district; earns playoff berth

GRADY – With their backs against the wall, the Grady Wildcats had to win their final two games of the district season to have any hopes of making the playoffs.

The first must win was a Valentine’s Day matchup with Midland TLCA. Grady executed to perfection and ruined TLCA’s sweet night with a 70-31 drumming.

Blaise Warren finished with a game high 14 points and Jackson Welch added 13.

Cooper Sims dropped 12 points and Brendan Pelletier tossed in 11.

Grady blows out Midland in final contest

GRADY – The junior high Grady Wildcats wrapped up their basketball season on Monday with a dominate 30-10 victory over Midland TLCA.

Grady jumped out to a commanding 24-4 lead and cruised to the lopsided win.

Kody Cates had a game high 12 points and Hunter McAnally added eight points.

Grady’s playoff hopes still alive

GARDEN CITY – Grady’s varsity boys basketball team continues to have an up and down district season with a Friday loss to Garden City and a Tuesday victory over Klondike.

Against Garden City, the Wildcats started off strong taking a 21-17 lead by halftime.

The Wildcats increased their advantage to 35-25 after the third quarter but Garden City exploded offensively in the final eight minutes to tie the game at 42-42 and force overtime.

The Wildcats experienced a fourth quarter hangover and could not find its rhythm giving the Bearkats a 53-48 victory.

Jackson Welch led all scorers with 22 points and Brendan Pelletier added 13.

Stanton falls to Anson

Stanton falls to Anson

STANTON - Stanton was doomed from the start in last week’s district game with Anson.

The Lady Buffs were not able to score any points in the first quarter allowing Anson to take a 12 point lead.

The next two quarters were competitive but another offensive outburst by Anson in the fourth quarter made the final score 53-28.

Wildcats too much for Buffaloes, win 41-10

GRADY - The Grady junior varsity Lady Cats played host to the Stanton junior varsity last week.

The Lady Cats jumped out to an early lead and never looked back coming away with a 41-10 victory.

“I thought the girls did a great job,” said Grady coach Jacinda Langen. “We played really good defense that created fast break points. Offensively we moved the ball around and created great looks for our teammates.”

Wildcats destroy the competition, wins tournament

GRADY - The Grady 8th grade girls won the Grady junior high tournament on Saturday.

They defeated Forsan B team 41-4.

Tatum North 11, Elena Jimenez 10, Samantha Griffin 10, Kloe Brown 6, Kaylee Coody 2, Sindy Cruz 2.

Lady Cats split with Borden County, Garden City to stay in playoff hunt

GRADY - Grady’s varsity girls played Borden County and Garden CIty over the last week and split the two contests to stay in the Class A playoff hunt.

The recent losing skid has dropped Grady to No. 24 in the recent Texas Association Basketball Coaches rankins.

Stanton battles Midland TLCA, Jim Ned

STANTON – Stanton’s freshmen teams were in action against Midland TLCA and Jim Ned earlier this month.

The ninth grade girls team crushed Midland 35-17 on Jan. 7.

The Buffs started slow scoring only five points in the first quarter. But a 22-point explosion over the next two periods already gave Stanton enough points to win.

The Lady Buffs added another eight point in the final quarter for the victory.

Raze led Stanton in scoring with seven points and Hensley added six.

Grady junior varsity loses two this week

GRADY – It was a rough week for Grady’s junior varsity boys as they lost two games to Hermleigh and Westbrook.

The first game back from Christmas break was a 57-24 loss to Hermleigh.

Austin Aaron scored a team high 13 points while Austin Snider had five, Cobe Cortez three and Colt Carson three.

Grady teams avenge losses, beats Westbrook

GRADY – Grady’s varsity and junior varsity girls started off 2020 with two big wins against Westbrook.

Grady lost to Westbrook in the very first game of the season, but after huge improvements by the varsity and junior varsity Wildcats, Grady beat Westbrook with big wins at home on last Tuesday night.

Grady’s junior varsity won 30-21.
