Garza, Avery, Richards, Jones to play one last game as Wildcats

LENORAH - Four Grady Wildcats graduates will get to play one more game representing the black and gold. Kyle Garza, Cole Avery, Carli Richards and Braeden Jones will all be participating in all-star basketball games this summer. The Texas Six Man Coaches Association All Star game will be July 16 starting at 12 p.m. with the East and West girls basketball game. The East and West boys basketball game will follow at 2 p.m.

Making a difference on the tennis court

MARTIN COUNTY - “Move your feet, keep your racket head level and follow through” is the main chorus heard starting at 9 am, June 20 at Buffalo Tennis Courts in Stanton as day breaks in at the start of preparations for youngsters to compete in future tennis tournaments. The second annual Martin County Tennis Camp resumes after a successful stint last year at Grady Wildcat Tennis Courts in Lenorah when 26 campers enjoyed more than 20 hours of instructional lessons, Gatorade, and snacks and ultimately, with success in this year’s district meets.

Texas State Junior High rodeo

Stanton freshman Stran Stewart is headed to the Texas State Junior High rodeo finals next week in Gonzales. Stewart will be competing in team roping. Texas has 10 regions that have rodeos throughout the year to qualify for state. Each region sends its top 10 competerors in each event to state.

Junior high Grady boys win district crown

GRADY – The Grady junior high Wildcats had a strong tourney, competing in the District 11 tennis meet last week. The boys division was won by Grady followed by Loop in second and Sands third. The girls division was won by Sands then second place Loop and third place Grady.

Gibson strikes gold in Amarillo, eyes state crown

AMARILLO - Big money, big towns, and players from big high schools tend to reign supreme over the sport of junior tennis in Texas. But on a warm and clear Panhandle weekend, Dominic Gibson, representing Martin County and the Grady community found a way to break into the ranks of the state’s junior tennis royalty. Gibson’s 6-1, 6-3 victory over Asher Melton of Amarillo in the finals of the USTA Championship Major Zone completed a string of 5 consecutive wins over top players from across Texas.
