Junior varsity Buffaloes on point in back-to-back wins

STANTON - The Stanton junior varsity boys have been on point the last two games picking up wins over Miles and Crane. Miles wasn’t much of a challenge as Stanton ran away with the 48-30 victory. Trace Burns and Reed Thomas finished with 11 points apiece for Stanton followed by Noe Ureste, Ricky Rangel and Reagan Nichols with six points each.

Stanton downs Lamesa on last second three

LAMESA - When the Lady Buffs find their rhythm in a game, watch out because they can run with some of the best. Stanton showed Lamesa a thing or two about hustle basketball picking up a 48-47 win back on Dec. 8.

Lady Buffaloes finish second at annual Hooptown Tournament

STANTON - Stanton High School was buzzing this past weekend with 24 basketball games played during the annual three day Hooptown Tournament. The Stanton varsity girls put together a nice run that ended in the championship game against Garden City. First up for Stanton were the Mustangs from Sands. The Buffs wasted little time taking a 14-7 lead early. Before Sands could think about a comeback Stanton pushed its lead to 41-24. At the final buzzer Stanton had a 48-28 win.

Permian stops Grady’s miracle run in championship of Corbin Classic

ANDREWS - Andrews High School hosted the Kristen Corbin Classic last weekend and welcomed several schools ranging from Class A all the way up to Class AAAAAA. The Kristen Corbin Classic was named in honor of Kristen Corbin who died on August 29, 2007 from injuries she sustained in a tragic car accident, just days before she was to begin her senior year at Andrews High School.

Stanton offense running on all cylinders

STANTON – Stanton’s varsity girls’ basketball team has been on a tear winning four games in a row scoring over 55 points. It started early Thanksgiving week with a huge comeback win over a talented Sweetwater team. Stanton needed 20 in the fourth to secure the victory.

Top athletes for District 3AAA Division II announced

STANTON - The Stanton Buffaloes varsity football team battled through three difficult months to finish the season 3-6 and miss the playoff. The hard work put in by the players earned several some coveted spots on the District 3AAA DII All-District List.

Wildcats beat Golden Tors 37-36

LENORAH - Emilee Vogler scored a team-high 11 points to propel the Lady Wildcats to a one-point victory over the visiting Golden Tornadoes of Lamesa. Grady’s Brittney Garza chipped in with 10 points to join Vogler in double figures. The two teams were back and fourth all game with Grady taking a one point lead after the first quarter but Lamesa claimed the halftime lead 18-16.

The Junior Olympic Association Championships

At Plainview Saturday in the Junior Olympic Association Championships National Qualifiers meet, the four member cross country team from Stanton and Odessa ran a 4K (2.8 mile) course. All four advance to the national meet Dec. 12 in Albuquerque, NM. The top time was turned in by Ida Ortiz – Hernandez of Stanton who finished first at 17:49. Other members are Salvador Falcon, Sebastian Hernandez and Ariel Rios, all of Odessa.
