Grady trudges through mud to finish 13th at state

ROUND ROCK – The Grady Wildcats wrapped up the cross country season on Nov. 7 at the Texas State Championships at Old Settlers Park in Round Rock. Teams and runners not only had to battle each other but were forced to contend with Mother Nature as she drenched the course with water turning Old Settlers Park into a soggy, muddy mess.

Grady couldn’t stop Rivas, O’Donnell

GRADY – The Grady Wildcats continued to struggle through the district season with its second loss in as many games. Despite having a two touchdown advantage going into the second half, Grady faltered late allowing O’Donnell to come from behind for a 90-60 victory. It was an impressive start last Friday night for Grady scoring five times in the opening half while allowing O’Donnell just three trips into the end zone.

Stanton splits with Coleman in gridiron games Thursday

STANTON - The junior high Buffaloes from Stanton split their two games with Coleman last week with the seventh grade getting the win and the eighth falling short. The seventh grade defeated Coleman 6-0 in a exciting game. Stanton was able to convert a fourth down play when Evan Cox threw a 10 yard pass to Tyler Benedict to keep the eventual game winning drive alive. Josh Hensley added a good run to get the ball to the one yard line. Two plays later Cox scored on a one yard run. The extra point failed.

New team, same results; Grady returns to state meet

ABILENE - The Grady Wildcat’s cross country team is heading back to the state meet after finishing third in the team standings at the Region II-A championships at Sherrod Park in Abilene on Monday. Sands won the team title followed by Rankin, Grady and May. These four team will be the Region II representatives at the state meet at Old Settlers Park in Round Rock on Nov. 7. Grady is set to run at 2 p.m.

Martinez fills in for injured star, carries Buffaloes to 46-22 victory

COAHOMA - After losing the district opener and key running back Estevan Chavez to a knee injury, Stanton needed something good to happen against rival Coahoma last Friday night. The Buffaloes not only got a monster performance from running back Alex Martinez but got an impressive 46-22 win over the Bulldogs.

Stanton Buffaloes lose game, Chavez

COLORADO CITY - The Stanton Buffaloes had a commanding lead going into the locker rooms at halftime but turnovers plagued the Buffs offense in the second half allowing Colorado City a monstrous comeback win in the District 3-3A Division II opener for both team.

Garden City too much for battered Wildcats

GRADY – The Grady Wildcat’s effort showed on the field last Friday night at M.W. Tunnel Field in Grady against Garden City, but that effort never did materialize into points on the scoreboard. The Bearkats jumped out to a 32-0 lead after the first quarter and had a 16-0 lead before Grady even ran one offensive play.

Casualties mount as Grady loses another player, game

NEW HOME - Grady has either an injury bug infestation or someone, somewhere has invested in Grady Wildcat voodoo dolls. Several Wildcats are being kept off the football field and cross country course due to injuries from head to toe.

Stanton runs at Elgen Suazo Memorial

BIG SPRING - The Stanton cross country teams competed in the Elgen Suazo Memorial Meet, hosted by Forsan at Scenic Mountain on Oct. 3. The varsity girls placed second as a team with 77 points. Dalia Balderas was first for the Lady Buffs, finishing 10th in 14:37. Payden North was 14th in 14:54, Courtney Lee 16th in 15:03, Robin Beasley 18th runnign a 15:07 followed by LaNique Smith 19th, 15:09,Jessica Ramirez, 22nd, 15:20 and Alejandra Arce, 24th, 16:00.
