Lady Buffs add two wins to season total

STANTON - Stanton’s varsity girls picked up two big wins over Seagraves and Kermit before dropping a tough contest to Class AA No. 1 ranked Plains. Against Seagraves, Stanton concluded the first half 38-16 on the heels of a 9-3 run. The Buffs continued to dominate in the second half and rolled to a 65-47 victory.

Stanton has ups, downs during Christoval Tournament

CHRISTOVAL - Stanton competed in the Christoval basketball tournament the weekend before Thanksgiving. Stanton opened with a 41- 29 loss to Brady. The Buffs jumped out to an early lead with 13 first quarter points and held on for a 17-13 halftime lead.

Happy thrilled with 76-50 win over Grady

SMYER — The Happy Cowboys were elated last Friday following a 76-50 defeat of the Grady Wildcats in Class A Division I playoff action at Smyer. Unfortunately, no statistics were available from the game.

GRADY - After a spectacular season that ended with the Wildcats winning another district title and qualifying for the state meet, the accolades continued this week with individual honors.

Grady wins elementary, junior high district UIL meets

O’DONNELL - Both Grady’s elementary and junior high UIL academic teams won their district meets this past week in O’Donnell. Grady Junior High (grades 6-8) won with a whopping 901.99 points, over 180 points ahead of second place Klondike.

Buffalo junior high ends season with one win, one loss

STANTON - The 2014 junior high football season concluded this last Thursday in Post, Stanton’s teams splitting the games. The 7th grade defeated Post 6-0, the only score coming from Isaiah Reyna on a 50 plus yard run. Overall, the team moved the ball consistently and stopped the ‘Lopes when they needed stopping.

Four players being named top player

The Stanton peewee football season came and went with four players being named top player of their respective teams. Zach Rosas, Ryan Peterson, Aaron Montez and Rito DeLao. Montez was also named MVP of the league.

Wildcats poised to make playoffs with win tonight

GRADY - Wildcats coach Chris Kuykendall said it was “refreshing” to see his team play as well as it did in last Thursday’s 74-24 mercy-rule victory against O’Donnell in District 4A Division I action. “We came out and executed and blocked, and tackled and ran the ball well,” Kuykendall said. “We took care of business and that was a good win for us. To see us come out and execute like we did was refreshing.”

Wildcats qualify for state cross country meet

SAN ANGELO - The Grady High School boy’s cross country team finished third at the Region II cross country meet at Red Arroyo Park in San Angelo last weekend to qualify for the state meet on Nov. 8 at Old Settlers Park in Round Rock.
