Stanton drops first two district games

STANTON - Stanton will be taking the hard road to the playoffs. After dropping its first two district games of the season the Buffs will have an uphill climb if they want to claim one of the coveted playoff spots. In its first district game, Stanton welcomed Denver City to town. The Mustangs were not gracious guests as they laid 28 points on Stanton in the first half for a 28-9 lead.

Wildcats finish second in Cotton Classic

GRADY – The Grady Wildcats had to settle for second place in the Black and Gold Cotton Classic last weekend as they could not overcome a slow start in the championship game against Forsan. Before Grady realized what had happened Forsan had stung the Cats for a 14-5 advantage. The Wildcats would give a little more ground in the second quarter to fall behind 31-18 at halftime.

Grady ladies are runners-up in Cotton Classic roundball action

GRADY – Grady breezed through the first two rounds of the Black and Gold Cotton Classic last weekend before running into trouble against Forsan in the championship game. Grady had some work to do to beat Forsan, a team averaging over 70 points a game in the tournament. The Wildcats took the early three point advantage just to relinquish their hard work to trail 21-17 by halftime. Forsan extended their lead to 33-28 before putting the final nail in the coffin for a 43-34 win.

Grady’s K-2nd flag football team won the Super Bowl

Grady’s K-2nd flag football team won the Super Bowl in its first season of action. Members were: Kristian Mendez; Gabriel Baeza; Martin Baeza, Cameron Grant, Jade Stone, Brandon,Boyd Cox, Caleb Cook, Hunter McAnally, Noah Ramos, Cal McMorries, Bradin Walker, Colby Cook, Niko Mendez and Collin Grant.

David Butler of Stanton recently took first place

David Butler of Stanton recently took first place at the Long Beach Open in California, competing in the master, medium heavy, blue belt division of the jiu jitsu tournament. The win moved Butler to #25 in his division out of 200 nationwide. Second place was Mark McCandless and third place was Jeremy Jackson.

Stanton goes 2-2 at El Ave Tournament in Crane

CRANE - Stanton’s varsity girls basketball team was in Crane this past week competing in the El Ave Tournament. After winning its opening round game against McCamey, Stanton dropped two straight to Big Spring and Andrews before knocking off Crane to end the tournament. The Stanton, McCamey game provided tons of offense, defense and suspense. Both teams were able to build double digit leads, score more than 20 points in a quarter and still managed to have the game come down to the final seconds.

Grady adds two wins to district tally

GAIL - Grady improved its District 6-A Division II record to 3-0 after picking up two more victories over Borden County on Friday and Klondike on Tuesday. The Wildcats breezed by Borden County 39-29. The game looked as if it would be a nail biter as Grady had just a one point lead after the first quarter but a 16 point outburst in the second quarter gave Grady a 10 point insurmountable elad.
