Midnight Madness opens grid season for Wildcats

GRADY - Something new has been added to the Grady lineup for the 2014 football season. Like schools all over Texas, the Grady Wildcats will take to the field for two-a-days starting on Aug. 4. Those hours will be posted in coming days. Meanwhile, Wildcat coaches and fans have put together a Midnight Madness event to highlight the start of the season and create some interest in the program.

Buffs, ‘Cats to play in Alamodome?

MARTIN COUNTY - It’s all about mariachis, botanas and walking down the river for the Stanton Buffaloes and Grady Wildcats, who will all be chasing a chance at the Final Four next spring. And if any of the four boys and girls teams from Martin County make it to state, they’ll be headed for San Antonio rather than Austin.

Cheer camp dates planned in Stanton

STANTON - Mini cheer camp will be Aug. 7 at the Stanton High School Gymnasium. The cost is $35 and $25 for each additional sibling. For more information contact Nora Myrick 432-638-8939. Dead line to guarantee a tshirt is June 19.

Myrick, Bird compete in all star classic

LUBBOCK - All season seniors are asked to leave it all on the field. Saturday, they were asked to do it one more time. The 10th annual ASCO football classic, held at Lowrey Field, brought graduates throughout West Texas including Mason Myrick and Austin Bird of Stanton together for the opportunity to participate in an allstar game to raise money for past players who have suffered permanent injury from playing football.

Martin County Little League

Dozens of Martin County Little League teams were treated to a Midland Rockhound’s game last Friday and the players were introduced before the game as special Teams of the Night. The kids even stood on the field with Rockhound’s players during the National Anthem.

Delino DeShields, Jr. was drafted with the 8th pick overall by the Houston Astros

Delino DeShields, Jr., son of former 13 year Major League Baseball player Delino DeShields, was drafted with the 8th pick overall by the Houston Astros in 2010 and is currently a member of the Corpus Christi Hooks of the Double-A Texas League.
