Grady wins elementary, junior high district UIL meets

O’DONNELL - Both Grady’s elementary and junior high UIL academic teams won their district meets this past week in O’Donnell. Grady Junior High (grades 6-8) won with a whopping 901.99 points, over 180 points ahead of second place Klondike.

Buffalo junior high ends season with one win, one loss

STANTON - The 2014 junior high football season concluded this last Thursday in Post, Stanton’s teams splitting the games. The 7th grade defeated Post 6-0, the only score coming from Isaiah Reyna on a 50 plus yard run. Overall, the team moved the ball consistently and stopped the ‘Lopes when they needed stopping.

Four players being named top player

The Stanton peewee football season came and went with four players being named top player of their respective teams. Zach Rosas, Ryan Peterson, Aaron Montez and Rito DeLao. Montez was also named MVP of the league.

Wildcats poised to make playoffs with win tonight

GRADY - Wildcats coach Chris Kuykendall said it was “refreshing” to see his team play as well as it did in last Thursday’s 74-24 mercy-rule victory against O’Donnell in District 4A Division I action. “We came out and executed and blocked, and tackled and ran the ball well,” Kuykendall said. “We took care of business and that was a good win for us. To see us come out and execute like we did was refreshing.”

Wildcats qualify for state cross country meet

SAN ANGELO - The Grady High School boy’s cross country team finished third at the Region II cross country meet at Red Arroyo Park in San Angelo last weekend to qualify for the state meet on Nov. 8 at Old Settlers Park in Round Rock.

Jaquan goes untouched, leads Coleman past Buffaloes

COLEMAN - It was a perfect October night in the heart of Texas for a Friday night football game. Smoke from the concession stand grill swept low across the field on the back of a gentle evening breeze. Fans on both sides were in short sleeve shirts ready to watch the Stanton Buffaloes face off with the undefeated Coleman Bluecats in a District 3AAA Division II game in Coleman.

Stanton Junior High takes two from Coleman

COLEMAN - The Junior High football teams made the long trip to Coleman this past Thursday. Even though we travelled that far, we left there with two wins. The 7th grade won 16-14, and the 8th grade won 22-12. “The 7th grade did a great job in the game. They had a few miscues, but still managed to stay ahead.,” said Stanton coach Chad Myers.

Wildcats open district season with Borden County

GRADY - The Grady Wildcats return to action this Friday after taking last week off due to a bye in the schedule. The Wildcats will host the undefeated Borden County Coyotes who are looking rather impressive following last weeks 80- 12 win over Amherst.

Stanton’s second half woes continue in fall to Coahoma 27-20

STANTON - It was a tale of two halves and, unfortunately, the Stanton Buffaloes were on the wrong side of it in the second half. After destroying Coahoma in the first half of action, Stanton was hoping to carry that momentum through the second half and get its first district 3AAA Division II win of the season. However, the Coahoma Bulldogs mounted a huge comeback for the 27-20 victory at Buffalo Stadium in Stanton last Friday night.
