Stanton wallops Wolves; poised for state playoff run

STANTON — The Stanton boys basketball team closed out the District 4-2A schedule with a blowout victory over Colorado City. K.J. Glaspie led the Buffaloes (12-13, 5-5) with a game-high 17 points and Jonathon Ramos added 11. The Buffaloes dominated the Wolves from start to finish, scoring double digits in all four quarters while not allowing more than nine points in any eight minute stretch.

Grady clinches district title, eyes return trip to Austin

GRADY - The Grady Wildcats closed out the district season with a loss to Borden County on Friday after winning the district title with a victory over rival Sands on Tuesday. Grady had a sluggish start in its contest with Sands but erupted for 26 second quarter points to take the 38-33 halftime lead.

Grady splits final two games of year

GRADY - The Grady Wildcats junior varsity girls split their final two games of the season with Forsan and Garden City. Last Friday, Grady battled Forsan on a neutral floor in Loop. Both teams were on fire at different points in the gam,m going on double digit runs to back the other into a corner. Grady struck first with a 15-2 run in the second quarter for a 23-9 halftime lead.

Stanton girls basketball comes to a close

STANTON - The Stanton Lady Buffs varsity basketball season came to a close this week following losses to Brownfield and Lamesa. Against Brownfield, Stanton looked as if they would get run out of the building after falling behind 20-11. But the Buffs never quit attitude chipped away at the large defecit until they took a 40-38 lead a tthe end of the third quarter.

Wildcats finish second in Grady Tournament

GRADY - The Grady Wildcats hosted the Grady Junior High Tournament this past weekend and walked away with the second place trophy. Grady opened up the tournament with a big win against Forsan. It was a total team effort that propelled the Wildcats to the 20-2 victory. Grady did not allow a singel field goal the entire game, just two free throws was all Forsan could muster.

Stanton cleans up at Ozona Tournament

OZONA – The Stanton Junior High basketball teams hit the road last weekend to compete in the Ozona Lion’s Tournament and returned home with four, top three plaques. Up first was the seventh grade girls who despite a slow start managed to turn the tide and finish third overall. Stanton opened with a tough first round match-up against Sonora and lost 30-23. Katie Harris led the Buffs with seven points followed by Payden North with six, Savanna Hewtty and Kirsten Church added four each and Alexis Carroll and Beth Holland each had one point.

Grady Junior High falls to 2-7

GRADY – The Grady Junior High girls basketball team lost a tough game to Borden County 28-3. It was a defensive battle through much of the first half a Grady had a 2-0 lead into the second quarter when Borden caught fire and rattled off 16 straight points. Leading Scorers for Grady were Julie Jimenez with two points and Anisia Enriquez with one.

JV Buffs are runners-up in Forsan tourney

FORSAN – Stanton’s junior varsity girl’s basketball team competed in the Forsan Tournament last weekend and walked away with a second place trophy. The Buffs run to the championship began with a 42-6 thrashing of Water Valley. Stanton held Water Valley scoreless in the first and fourth quarter and allowed just one free throw in the third period.

Loop and Dawson go easily for Wildcats

LENORAH - Grady had no trouble in its District 6-A Division II games against Loop and Dawson to remain unbeaten in district play. Brittney Garza scored a game-high 25 points and Lupita Jimenez added 18 as Grady jumped out to a 25-3 lead in the first quarter and a 42-11 lead at the half. Second half action was more of the same as Grady poured in 35 points and only allowed Loop seven for a 77-18 final.
