Gail game determines playoff order for Wildcats

IKLONDIKE – Grady faced some early adversity Friday night against Klondike but a rallied effort allowed the Wildcats to crush the Cougars 34-14.

Klondike managed to land the first blow and score a quick eight points and steal all the early momentum but Grady clawed its way back to a 14-8 halftime lead.

After swapping a couple scores in the third quarter, Grady’s ground and p o u n d rushing attack finally wore Klondike down allowing the Wildcats to score the final 14 points and secure the district victory.

Buffaloes end football season at home Friday against Colorado City

IDALOU – Stanton’s grid iron struggles continued Friday night with a 69-0 district loss to Idalou.

The highly ranked Wildcats unleashed a barrage of points with 434 yards of total offense while the defense h e l d Stanton to 76.

Devan Simpson led the Buffaloes offense completing five of his 14 passes for two yards and carrying the ball 13 times for 39 yards.

Last drives of games sink junior high Buffaloes

STANTON – Stanton’s junior high football teams narrowly missed wins against district rival Coahoma last Thursday at Buffalo Stadium in Stanton. The seventh grade Buffaloes lost a high scoring contest 37-34. The teams traded blows back and forth for the first half with Coahoma grabbing a miniscule 21-20 lead.

Stanton Buffaloes

Yards and scores were tough to come by for the Stanton Buffaloes Friday night when Coahoma took a 49-14 win in district action. The Buffaloes are on the road this Friday for a 7:30 matchup in Idalou.

Grady beats O’Donnell 7-6

O’DONNELL - The Grady Junior High Wildcats traveled to O’Donnell and beat the Eagles 7-6 last Thursday.

Logan Aaron threw a three yard touchdown pass to Quint Harrell. Austin Snider ran in the one point conversion.

Aaron finished 2-4 on the night for 15 yards with Hunter McAnally catching the other pass.

Close but no cigar for Buffaloes

ACUFF — Lubbock Roosevelt scored a late touchdown to defeat District 2-3A Division II opponent Stanton at Eagle Field on Friday night.

The Buffaloes were poised to get their first district win of the season as they entered the fourth quarter with a 12-7 lead.

Everything was going according to plan until Roosevelt’s final possession when Jacob Torres crossed the goal line with 55 second remaining in the game for a 15-12 lead.

Abernathy a rude guest in district opener

STANTON – Abernathy took a 47-0 lead into the locker room at the half and rolled past Stanton 59-7 in the District 2- 3A Division II opener for both teams at Buffalo Stadium in Stanton last Friday night.

Stanton played their first game of the season without sophomore quarterback Landon Burkhart who transferred to Sterling City. Devan Simpson and Tyler Benedict split time at quarterback looking to find the perfect fit for the offense.

Abernathy didn’t make it easy for either quarterback as the Buffs only gained 140 yards of total offense.

Grady wins district cross country crown

LUBBOCK - The Grady Varsity Boys Cross Country team competed in the District 8A meet last week.

The varsity boys brought home the district championship and advanced to the Region I meet at Mae Simmons Park in Lubbock on Oct. 22.

“One of the goals at the start of the year was to win the district championship. We finished second last year and that motivated us this year,” said Grady Coach Jym Dennis.

Simpson gets the call Friday night as Stanton opens district against a tough Abernathy eleven

STANTON – The Stanton Buffaloes will kick-off the District 2AAA DII season at home on Friday at 7:30 p.m.

The Buffs have a tough task ahead as they open district with Abernathy on Friday. A new comer to the district this season, the Antelopes are expected to finish runner-up in their inaugural District 2AAA DII season.

To make matters worse, the Buffs will be playing without sophomore sensation Landon Burkhart at quarterback as he will not be attending the game on Friday.
