Stanton wraps up tennis season

COLORADO CITY - The Stanton Junior High tennis team wrapped up the season with the the District 5 tournament on May 6 in Colorado City.

In the overall team standings the Stanton boys and girls both finished in third place.

It’s new territory for Stanton; state baseball playoffs Friday

ABILENE – With the program still in the infancy stages, the Stanton Buffaloes made school history by advancing to the Class AAA state baseball playoffs this week in Abilene.

Stanton, the fourth place finisher in District 5, will face off with the Comance Indians the district champion of District 6. Comanche finished the season 16-8 overall and 8-2 in district.

Grady’s Alyssa Lyon

Grady’s Alyssa Lyon (left) advances to state in the triple jump and 300 m hurdles after finishes second in both events. She ran a 50.79 in the 300 m hurdles and jumped 33' 5 1/2" in the triple jump. She jumps May 12 at 8 am and runs on the same day at 8:45 pm at the Class A State Track and Field Meet in Austin.

Buffs make diamond history

COLORADO CITY – Stanton split its last two District 5-AAA games with Colorado City and Merkel to earn a spot in the state playoffs for the first time in school history.

Class AAA regional golf

Stanton golfers Blake Snellgrove and Logan Daly competed in the Class AAA regional golf tournament this week in Abilene. Neither advanced, finishing in the middle of the pack for a shot at going to the state tournament.

Grady wraps up district and area, now headed to regional track meet

BORDEN COUNTY – The Grady Wildcats wrapped up the district and area track meet over the past couple weeks and are now preparing for the Region II Class A meet at LeGrand Stadium at Angelo State University in San Angelo.

At the district meet in Borden County on Apr. 12, the junior varsity finished second with 102 points behind district champs Ackerly which amassed 164 points. O’Donnell was third with 46 followed by Klondike in fourth and Loop and Dawson tied for fifth.

The junior varsity girls team standings had Klondike first with 52 points followed by Dawson with 48, Sands 32, Grady 20, Loop 12 and O’Donnell zero.

Stanton Buffalo

As the Stanton Buffalo baseball and softball teams enter the final week of their inaugural seasons, Buff fans have plenty to be proud of - and look forward to! Both programs will only get better as interest in both has continued to grow and players have continued to improve throughout this first full season. Top right David Ochoa gets a congrats, bottom right Connor Sales rounds third, bottom left Jessica Ramirez makes a play and top left Kaitlyn Albert chases a fly ball. Both teams are in action Friday in Colorado City.

Grady girls claim junior high crown

ACKERLY - Track season has come to a close for the Grady junior high teams after competing in district on Apr. 4 in Sands. The Grady junior high girls won the team title with 208 points followed by Sands in second with 206, O’Donnell third scoring 112, Loop fourth with 24, Klondike fifth earning 22 and Dawson sixth with 13 total points.

The junior high boy’s division was won by Klondike with 206 points while O’Donnell and Sands were second and third with 139 and 129 points

Grady girls crush huge field at Rankin

RANKIN – The Rankin Red Devils hosted a huge junior high track meet last Thursday that welcomed over 18 teams to Rankin. Grady’s girls were unstoppable racking up 140 points to win the team title. Second place was Buena Vista with 84 points and Rankin was third with 73. The Wildcat boys were 14th with a team total of eight points.
