BLANCHARD, OKLA. - Ronald D. “Ronny” Mitchell, 73, of Blanchard, Okla., died at his home Mar. 2, 2017. He was born Nov. 10, 1943, in Dublin. His family came to Martin County in 1950. They settled in the Courtney Community, later moving to Stanton. He quit school at 17 and joined the Army where he spent the next 20 years. He served three tours of duty in Vietnam where he earned four Purple Heart Awards, two Bronze Star Medals with V Device plus many more commendations for acts of bravery. He is survived by his wife, Robin of Blanchard; two daughters, Shiloe Stewart and Jackie O’Dell, both of Oklahoma City, Okla.; two sons, Stephen Mitchell of New Mexico and Cody Mitchell of Blanchard; four grandchildren; one brother, Glen Mitchell and wife Shirley of Vancouver, Wash.; one sister, Rosie McCuin and husband Don, of Stanton, and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, Weldon and Thelma Mitchell. Graveside memorial services will be at 2 pm April 23 at the Indian Gap Cemetery in Hamilton County, Texas. The family suggests memorials to the Martin County Senior Citizens Center, P.O. Box 1233, Stanton, Texas 79782 or to a charity of choice.
