The Nutcracker will be in Big Spring Dec. 14

BIG SPRING - German folklore says nutcrackers were given as keepsakes to protect homes and bring good luck to families. The more amusing and unusual the nutcracker the better.

An 1816 novel titled the nutcracker and the mouse king inspired Tchaikowsky’s famous holiday ballet, The Nutcracker Suite.

Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker Ballet will be performed in Big Spring Dec. 14.

Dancers from the Midland Festival Ballet will join musicians in the Big Spring Symphony Orchestra to bring this holiday tradition to Big Spring’s Municipal Auditorium.

The ballet begins at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are 20 dollars for adults, 15 dollars for seniors. Students are admitted free. Children under 12 are admitted free when accompanied by an adult.

Ticket outlets include HEB, The Karat Patch, Heritage Museum, Chamber of Commerce and CVB. Tickets will be available at the door of the Dec. 14 performance.

The presentation of the Nutcracker Ballet is sponsored in part by a grant from HEB.
