GRADY - The Grady Wildcats junior high basketball teams looked battled Garden City on Monday Night in Grady.

The Wildcats defended their home court and bested the Garden City Bearkats 28-22.

The two teams were very evenly matched but Grady made two more field goals in the first half for a slim 12-8 halftime advantage.

Grady stretched its lead to 21-10 after a dominating third quarter and managed to hold off a charging Garden City team in the final eight minutes for the six point victory.

Chapman Sims posted a season high 10 points to lead Grady in scoring.

Kody Cates scored seven points and Kellen Young had a season high six points. Hunter McAnally and Gunner Cherry finished with three and two points respectively.

“This was another tough game for us against bigger players. I was very proud of all the kids for being a lot more aggressive on both ends of the floor.” said Grady Coach Chris Short. “We did better on blocking out on defense and moving the ball around on offence. This was by far our best overall game of the season. This young group is getter better every week.”

The win improves Grady’s season record to 2-1.

The Lady Wildcats were not a successful as the Lady Bearkats managed a 33-15 road victory.

Grady’s leading scorer was Samantha Griffin with six points.

Tatum North added five points for the Wildcats while Elena Jimenez and Kaylee Coody had two points each.

“The girls played very hard, we just missed too many easy shots,” said Grady coach Jacinda Langen.

Grady will play at Midland TLCA on Dec. 9.

The girls B team starts at 5p.m. followed by the girls A at 6p.m. and the boys at 7p.m.
