GRADY – Grady’s varsity boys’ basketball team has struggled over the past few weeks with injuries and added three more losses to the season record.

On Jan. 3, Hermleigh took no prisoners in a 60-33 performance on its home court.

Grady’s top scorers were Jackson Welch with 10 points and Logan Aaron with seven.

Blaise Warren and Gunnar Rivas finished with five points each while Quint Harrell and Cooper Sims tosses in three points each.

Next on the docket was a Jan. 7 game against a talented No. 24 Westbrook team.

Grady delivered a big blow in the first quarter for a 13-12 lead, but Westbrook responded with two big quarters for a 64-34 victory.

High point for Grady was Welch with 18 and Cobe Cortez tallied six.

Harrell and Sims scored three points each and Franki Jimenez and Colt Carson had two each.

The most recent game was a Tuesday rematch with Hermleigh.

With all of its players back from injury, Grady went toe-to-toe with Hermleigh and rallied from a halftime deficit to force overtime. The four extra minutes were electric but in the end Grady fell by the smallest of margins, 49-48.

Welch has a game high 23 points and Gunnar Rivas added 13 points.

Blaise Warren chipped in with seven points followed by Sims with two and Brendan Pelletier with two.

This was a much better game for us against Hermleigh than before. This was the first time since game two of the season that we had all our players. I was so proud of our effort and attitude on the court,” said Grady coach Chris Short. “This young bunch has had a brutal schedule. I am hoping that it has prepared us for district that will start with the No. 4 team in the state, Borden County.”

Grady’s record currently sits a 7-13 on the season.
