MARTIN COUNTY - The annual Martin County Livestock Show begins this evening when animals are weighed and classified at the Martin County Community Center

The show itself starts Friday morning with the photo contest check-in, sheep, goats and then the cattle show.

There will be a photography contest will be Friday afternoon.

On Saturday, the swine show will take up most of the morning hours, before giving way to the rabbit show after lunch.

This will give participants, parents and volunteers time to prepare for the show’s banquet Saturday night, also at the community center.

Evan Hoefelmeyer of Big Spring will judge the sheep, goats and cattle on Friday morning, with Rachel Franklin of Stanton coming in later in the day to judge the photography contest.

On Saturday, Cody Hill of Abilene will judge the swine show in the morning and Teresa De Sautell of Whiteface will judge the rabbits in the afternoon.

Shows start at 9 am, with the sheep and goats showing first Friday, immediately followed by the cattle. Photos will be judged at 2 pm.

Saturday’s shows start at 10 am with the swine and the rabbit show will begin at 2 pm.

Weigh-in will be today from 4 to 6 pm, while the banquet, which will be catered by Luchi’s Smokehouse, starts at 6 pm Saturday.

There is no charge to attend any of the activities of the show, which are open to the public.

While there is not a formal concession stand, there will be some donuts and snack items available both mornings.

The banquet Saturday night will include the awards program as well as a large silent auction of items which will be on display both days of the show.
